Barrera and Lesko Headline Three Mavericks Named to ECC Women's Basketball Weekly Report

COLONIA, N.J. (Jan. 6, 2025) – Mercy University women's basketball junior Angelina Barrera (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for Week Eight, sophomore Grace Lesko (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) has been named Rookie of the Week and senior Jaclyn Stanavich (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam) has been tabbed to the Honor Roll.

Barrera had 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting with six rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in Mercy's 68-62 win over East Stroudsburg on Thursday. The junior drew a charge in the final minute of play with Mercy leading by two to help lead the Mavericks to the win.

Lesko had a career-high and team-high 22 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and 13-of-14 shooting from the foul line with two rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 24 minutes in Mercy's 68-62 win over East Stroudsburg on Thursday. The sophomore scored the go-ahead points at the foul line with 50 seconds left.

Stanavich had 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting with a team-high seven rebounds to go with one steal in Mercy's 68-62 win over East Stroudsburg on Thursday.

The award is the fourth this season for Barrera, the second for Lesko and the sixth for Stanavich. Mercy has now earned 15 awards on the year.

Head Coach Scott Lagas and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, January 8th when they host Staten Island at 5 p.m.
