Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 6-11 overall and 3-10 in NE10 play. The Mavericks look to qualify for the NE10 Championship for the second time in program history after qualifying for the first time in 2023. Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks were picked 11th in the NE10 Preseason Poll. Leading the returners for the Mavericks is sophomore Charlotte Sabert who had a team-high 14 points on five goals and four assists last season. Junior Madison Preston also returns after posting four goals and four assists and senior Samantha Trickel is back after netting four goals and two assists. Graduate student Jessica Evans returns after scoring three goals last season and sophomores Madison Brefka and Jaime Stella return after combining for two goals and two assists. Senior Reagan Lane returns on defense after posting a team-high seven defensive saves last season. Sophomore Eunice Santiago is also back after recording four defensive saves. Returning in goal is senior Rebecca McClure who went 5-8 with 81 saves, a .757 save percentage and 2.22 goals-against average in 13 starts. Also returning are juniors Kate Lynne Conklin and Alyssa Benvengo and sophomores Adrianna Taynor, Camryn Shea, Lilliauna Tepper and Kaylise McClure. Joining the team as freshmen are Gianna Bevacqua, Izzy Walther, Gwendolyn Smith and Gianna Felice.
The Mavericks are coming off a 1-0 loss to Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday. Mercy was led by sophomore Kaylise McClure who had a game-high six saves. Sophomore Charlotte Sabert has 16 points on seven goals, and two assists and graduate student Jessica Evans has a team-high nine goals and 20 points. Sophomore Madison Brefka has nine points on three goals and a team-high three assists and freshman Gwendolyn Smith has a goal and two assists. Junior Madison Preston has a goal and Brefka has a team-high-tying two defensive saves. Senior Samantha Trickel has two assists and junior Alyssa Benvengo has three goals. Senior Reagan Lane has two defensive saves and sophomore Eunice Santiago has a team-high three defensive saves. Senior Rebecca McClure is 1-4 in goal with 23 saves, a .676 save percentage and 3.03 goals-against average. Sophomore Kaylise McClure has a team-high 115 saves with a .816 save percentage and is 3-5 on the year. Kaylise McClure was named to the NE10's Faces in the Crowd on October 8th and Evans was named to the NE10's Faces in the Crowd on October 15th. Mercy is 1-6 all-time against Southern New Hampshire. The Mavericks are looking to beat the Penmen for the first time since 2015.
Scouting the Penmen
Southern New Hampshire is coming off a 4-0 win over Molloy on Tuesday for their fourth straight win. The Penmen were picked fifth in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 16-4 last season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament. Southern N.H. is led by Zoe Demers who has a team-high 20 points on nine goals and two assists. Amelia Crocombe is second on the team with 15 points by way of six goals and three assists. Kim Dull has four goals and a team-high-tying five assists and Minke van de Poll has six goals and one assist. Jade Hendriks has a team-high-tying five assists and Agustina Miranda Waigand is 9-4 in goal with 70 saves, a .778 save percentage and 1.80 goals-against average.
