ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Powered by two saves from sophomore Anneliese Becker (Stafford, Va./Mountain View), the No. 11 Mercy University Women's Soccer Team earned a 0-0 draw at ECC foe Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at Roberts Stadium.
The Mavericks (10-1-2, 2-0-2 ECC) earn their second ECC draw of the season and earn a tie against the Redhawks (5-3-4, 2-1-2 ECC) for the first time since 2022.
The match between Mercy and Roberts Wesleyan started with both teams unable to break through the opposing defenses in the first half. Sophomore Hailey Metzger (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) took an early shot in the 9th minute, which was saved by Mia Tyndell. Becker responded for Mercy with key saves against shots from Mackenzie Hagen in the 21st minute and Adria Ariola in the 40th minute. The half concluded with a 0-0 scoreline, as neither team managed to capitalize on their opportunities.
The second half commenced with Mercy taking two early corner kicks, indicating an aggressive approach. Roberts Wesleyan responded with a corner kick of their own at 48:09, but Alyssa Hackett's shot soon after went wide. Mercy's offensive pressure was evident as freshman Camila Salvador (Santiago, Chile/Santiago College) and senior Ella Brower (Huntington Station, N.Y./The College of Saint Rose) each forced saves from Mia Tyndell in quick succession around the 57th minute. Despite multiple attempts, including a notable save against freshman Gracie DiPalo's (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) shot in the 69th minute, the game concluded scoreless with neither team breaking through.
Becker recorded a shutout, making two saves in the match. Salvador had one shot on goal, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Brower also registered a shot on goal, adding to the pressure on the opposing defense. Metzger finished with two shots, one of which was on target.
Mia Tyndell excelled in the net for the Redhawks, recording five saves and securing a shutout. Hagen led the attack with one shot on goal, and Alyssa Hackett and Kaeleigh Romero each contributed with a shot, though neither found the target.
Mercy held a 7-4 edge in shots, a 5-2 edge in shots on goal and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
In their next game, Mercy will travel to Sparkill, N.Y., to face St. Thomas Aquinas College on October 22. The match will begin at 2:30 p.m.
