Becker Makes Four Saves as No. 1 Women's Soccer Hosts No. 3 Roberts Wesleyan in ECC Championship Final

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. — Despite a team-high four saves from sophomore Anneliese Becker (Stafford, Va./Mountain View), the No. 1 seeded Mercy University Women's Soccer Team dropped a 1-0 decision to No. 3 seeded Roberts Wesleyan University in the 2025 ECC Women's Soccer Championship Final on Sunday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (14-3-2) fall in their first Final appearance since 2022, while the Redhawks (11-3-4) win their first-ever ECC Championship. Mercy will now wait to hear their named called in the NCAA Tournament selection show tomorrow, November 17th at 6:30 p.m. at NCAA.com.

The match commenced with Becker in goal for Mercy, facing early pressure from Roberts Wesleyan. In the 17th minute, Northup opened the scoring for the Redhawks with an assist from Larissa Johnston off a free kick, putting the visitors ahead 1-0. Mercy's attempts to equalize were thwarted by Tyndell, who saved four shots in the half, including efforts from freshman Camila Salvador (Santiago, Chile/Santiago College) and graduate student Madison Rosa (Dublin, Calif./Dublin). Despite multiple corner kicks, Mercy was unable to find the back of the net, leaving them trailing at the end of the first half.

The second half featured Mercy maintaining offensive pressure against Roberts Wesleyan but failing to capitalize on numerous opportunities. Sophomore Hailey Metzger (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) had multiple attempts saved by Tyndell, including a shot in the 52nd minute from the bottom center. Senior Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) and Rosa also had shots saved, with Mercy unable to break through the visiting defense. Roberts Wesleyan's goalkeeper, Tyndell, was instrumental with several key saves, including stopping a shot by senior Ella Brower (Huntington Station, N.Y./The College of Saint Rose) in the 49th minute. Despite Mercy's frequent corner kicks, the Redhawks held the line, earning the 1-0 win.

Metzger led the offensive efforts for Mercy, finishing with four shots, all of which were on goal. Rosa contributed to the attack with three shots, two of which were on target. Becker was key in goal, recording four saves across 90 minutes. Salvador added pressure with a shot on goal from midfield.

Tyndell stood out in goal for Roberts Wesleyan, recording 10 saves to secure a shutout victory. Johnston contributed with an assist, helping to set up the game-winning play. Northup found the back of the net, scoring the lone goal of the match and securing the game-winning goal for her team. Northup was named the championship's Most Outstanding Player.

Mercy held a 14-6 edge in shots, a 12-5 edge in shots on goal and an 11-3 edge in corner kicks.
