DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Despite junior Jordan Trahan (New Orleans, La./Odessa College) and sophomore Kohen Rowbatham (Slidell, La./University of New Orleans) scoring in double figures, the Mercy University Men's Basketball Team dropped an 82-55 decision to Felician University in their home opener on Wednesday night at the Judge Athletic Center.
The Mavericks (0-3) fall to the Golden Falcons (2-1) for the sixth straight time.
The first half began with Mercy taking an early lead after a jumper from Rowbatham at 19:16. Felician quickly responded with a series of scoring plays, including a layup by Tristin Harcourt at 18:36, assisted by Noah Hutchins, to take control. Felician extended their lead with a 13-2 run, highlighted by a fast-break layup from Tavian Pullock at 18:17. The Mavericks struggled to keep pace, despite a late layup by Trahan with just four seconds remaining, assisted by Rowbatham. Felician ended the half ahead, 41-27, with Jeremiah Anderson contributing significantly to their scoring efforts.
Felician started the second half strong with Hutchins sinking a 3-pointer just 15 seconds in, assisted by Anderson. Hutchins followed up with a successful layup, contributing to Felician's 41-point half. Trahan responded with a three-pointer at 17:49, assisted by senior TJ Holloway (Stratford, Conn./Central Connecticut State University), but Felician maintained their lead. Felician's Donovan Long and Anderson both added layups, with Anderson also closing the game with a fast-break layup at the 55-second mark, sealing an 82-55 victory.
Trahan led the Mavericks with 14 points and collected a game-high 11 rebounds. Rowbatham added 13 points and recorded two steals. Freshman Tyrell Miller (Los Angeles, Calif./Frederick K.C. Price III Christian School) contributed defensively by posting three blocks. Holloway facilitated the offense with four assists, grabbed four rebounds and had five points. Sophomore Joshua Naklen (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bedford Academy) had a career-high seven points.
Jeremiah Anderson led Felician with a game-high 29 points, shooting 12-for-21 from the field, and added seven assists and four steals. Hutchins contributed 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting and distributed four assists.
Mercy shot 28.1 percent (18-of-64) from the floor, 21.1 percent (4-of-19) from downtown and 68.2 percent (15-of-22) from the foul line. Felician shot 45.9 percent (34-of-74) from the field, 19.0 percent (4-of-21) from beyond the arc and 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from the charity stripe. Felician held a 52-41 edge on the glass.
Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, November 22nd when they play at Chestnut Hill at 2 p.m.
