COLONIA, N.J. – Mercy University Volleyball junior Adriana Rivera Rodriguez (Humacao, Puerto Rico/American International College) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Volleyball Setter of the Week for the third time and senior Gabriela Bieniek (Rzeszow, Poland/Indian Hills CC) and junior Mia Illes-Hair (Lake Worth, Fla./Palm Beach Central) have been tabbed to the Honor Roll for Week Nine.
Rivera Rodriguez had a team-high 75 assists, 9.38 assists per set, 24 digs, and 3.00 digs per set with one block, one ace and eight kills as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The junior opened the week with a match-high 44 assists and 16 digs with three kills in Mercy's 3-2 win at Chestnut Hill on Monday. The setter ended the week with a match-high 31 assists and eight digs with five kills, one ace and one block in the win over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday.
Bieniek had a team-high 37 kills and 4.63 kills per set on .282 hitting with 17 digs, one block, two aces, and three assists as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The senior opened the week with a career-high-tying 24 kills to go with 11 digs, two assists and one ace in the Mavericks' 3-2 win at Chestnut Hill on Monday. The outside hitter ended the week with a match-high 13 kills to go with six digs, one block, one ace and one assist in Mercy's 3-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday.
Illes-Hair had a team-high eight blocks (4 solo, 4 assist) and 1.00 blocks per set with 18 kills on .536 hitting as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The junior opened the week with five blocks (3 solo, 2 assist) and 10 kills in the 3-2 win at Chestnut Hill on Monday. The middle blocker ended the week with three blocks (1 solo, two assist) and eight kills on .800 hitting in the win over Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday.
The award is the ninth for Rivera Rodriguez this season, the sixth for Bieniek and the third for Illes-Hair. Mercy has now earned 23 awards on the year.
Head Coach Ana Todorovic and the Mavericks resume action tomorrow when they host AIC at 7 p.m.
