DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Despite three Mavericks scoring in double figures, the Mercy University Men's Basketball Team dropped a 77-55 decision to RV Adelphi University on Tuesday night at the Judge Athletic Center.
The Mavericks (1-7) fall to the Panthers (8-1) for the fifth straight time.
The game commenced with freshman Tyrell Miller (Los Angeles, Calif./Frederick K.C. Price III Christian School) quickly making his presence known by stealing the ball from Patrick Burke. Adelphi's Jarnel Rancy opened the scoring with a layup at 19:20. The Mavericks responded with a jumper by sophomore Kohen Rowbatham (Slidell, La./University of New Orleans) at 19:01, leveling the score. The Panthers pulled ahead with a series of strategic plays, including a 3-pointer by Mason Jackson at 15:14, assisted by Burke. Mercy kept pace with contributions from multiple players, including senior TJ Holloway (Stratford, Conn./Central Connecticut State University), who hit a crucial 3-pointer at 7:49. However, Adelphi's Matthew Price capped the half with a layup in the final seconds, securing a 38-29 lead at the end of the first half.
Adelphi extended its lead with a dominant performance in the second half, outscoring Mercy 39-26. Burke played a key role for the Panthers, contributing a series of points in the paint, including a layup at 14:27. The Mavericks attempted to keep pace, with junior Jordan Trahan (New Orleans, La./Odessa College) making an impact by scoring a layup at 17:47 and a fast-break free throw at 6:51. However, the Panthers' Reece Brown added a crucial 3-pointer at 12:29, and Jackson sealed the half with a 3-pointer at the 1:17 mark. Miller recorded two blocks and two steals, finishing with four points and four rebounds. Junior Ashton Pratt (Alexandria, Va./Chesapeake College) added seven points.
