Holloway, Trahan and Rowbatham Combine for 74 Points as Men's Basketball Earns 103-98 Come-From-Behind Double-Overtime Win Over D'Youville

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Powered by a combined 74 points from senior TJ Holloway (Stratford, Conn./Central Connecticut State University), junior Jordan Trahan (New Orleans, La./Odessa College) and sophomore Kohen Rowbatham (Slidell, La./University of New Orleans), the Mercy University Men's Basketball Team earned a 103-98 come-from-behind double-overtime win over ECC foe D'Youville University on Sunday afternoon at the Judge Athletic Center.

The Mavericks (2-8, 2-2 ECC) defeat the Saints (2-8, 2-2 ECC) at home for the first time since 2021.

Mercy and D'Youville opened the contest with a tightly contested first half. Trahan initiated the scoring with a jumper, but D'Youville's Elisha Warren quickly responded with a 3-pointer. Sean Reynolds contributed significantly for D'Youville, hitting a pair of 3-pointers, including one at the 7:18 mark to help build a lead. Mercy's efforts were bolstered by Rowbatham, who managed to close the gap with a series of layups and a jumper, but D'Youville led 35-27 by the end of the half following a late 3-pointer from Reynolds with just 22 seconds remaining.

D'Youville jumped ahead with a series of layups by Trayton Trice, assisted by Maxence Massadila, extending their lead to a game-high 12 points, 41-29, early in the half. The Mavericks responded with a scoring run, highlighted by a 3-pointer and a layup from Rowbatham, closing the gap to 45-41. As the half progressed, Holloway sank a crucial 3-pointer at the 6:40 mark, bringing the score to 58-57. A Rowbatham layup later gave Mercy a 59-58 lead with 5:53 left. A Trahan jumper at the 3:37 mark later gave the Mavericks a 65-60 lead before the Saints rallied with a 9-1 run to take a 69-66 lead with 1:23 on the clock. A Trahan three-point play tied the game at 69-69 before two Trice free throws gave D'Youville a 71-69 lead with 45 seconds left. In the final tense moments, Trahan's layup tied the game at 71 with 21 seconds remaining. Regulation ended in a stalemate, with both teams unable to convert on last-second opportunities, leaving the score tied at 71.

In a tense first overtime stretch, both teams matched each other point for point, resulting in a 12-12 tie for the period. D'Youville briefly took a five-point lead with a 3-pointer by Reynolds at the 4:14 mark. The Mavericks responded with junior Derek Long's (Milford, Conn./Deerfield Academy) 3-pointer at 3:54, and Holloway's jumper tied the game at 76-76. In the final moments, Long hit a crucial 3-pointer with 3 seconds remaining to level the score at 83-83, after which Massadila's buzzer-beater attempt for the Saints fell short, sending the game into the second overtime.

In a tense second overtime, Mercy secured a narrow 103-98 victory over the Saints. The second overtime saw a series of lead changes, highlighted by Rowbatham's layup at 4:11, which gave the Mavericks a brief advantage. Junior Ashton Pratt's (Alexandria, Va./Chesapeake College) three-point play at 3:34 put Mercy ahead, but Reynolds' free throws at 1:59 regained the lead for D'Youville, 91-90. Down the stretch, junior Daniel Boateng (Fords, N.J./Caldwell University) and Holloway combined for crucial free throws, with Holloway sealing the win by converting four in the final seconds. Massadila's late 3-pointers kept the Saints within reach, but they ultimately fell short.

Holloway scored a team-high-tying 25 points, converting 11-of-12 free throws, and collected nine rebounds. Trahan matched with 25 points, while also recording 12 rebounds and four steals. Rowbatham added 24 points, connecting on nine field goals and contributing seven rebounds. Long posted three 3-pointers, finishing with nine points. Boateng added a season-high 12 points and Pratt recorded five points.

Reynolds led D'Youville with a game-high 26 points, hitting 8-of-11 field goals and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Trice contributed significantly with 23 points and completed all 11 of his free-throw attempts. His performance on the boards was notable, gathering 11 rebounds.

Mercy shot 39.3 percent (33-of-84) from the floor, 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from downtown and 73.2 percent (30-of-41) from the foul line. D'Youville shot 38.0 percent (30-of-79) from the field, 30.8 percent (12-of-39) from beyond the arc and 86.7 percent (26-of-30) from the charity stripe. D'Youville held a 57-55 edge on the glass.

Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Mavericks resume action on Thursday, December 18th when they play at Goldey-Beacom at 6 p.m.
