Jemison Records Game-High-Tying Two RBI as Baseball Hosts RV Molloy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 28, 2025) – Despite a game-high-tying two RBI from sophomore Peyton Jemison (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury), the Mercy University baseball team dropped an 8-6 decision to ECC foe RV Molloy University on Friday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (15-13, 2-3 ECC) see their two-game winning streak come to an end and fall to the Lions (14-8, 4-1 ECC) for the 13th straight time.

Mercy was led by Jemison who went 2-for-5 with a game-high-tying two RBI. Junior John Nisco (Tarrytown, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow) went 1-for-5 with an RBI and junior David Bernard Jr. (Schenectady, N.Y./Herkimer CC) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Junior Zach Ashline (Colonie, N.Y./Colonie Central) went 1-for-5 and senior Joseph Gonzalez (Monroe, N.Y./Rockland CC) went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Senior Alfred Hoti (New York, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) went 1-for-3 and junior Kolongi Goins (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./FDR) went 1-for-2. Junior Diego Wirz (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) pitched the first 5.2 innings with three earned runs allowed to take a no-decision. Freshman Sammy Mendez (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief and junior Samuel Gil (Bronx, N.Y./St. Bonaventure University) allowed three runs in 0.1 innings to take the loss.

Molloy was led by Nicholas Dagnello who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Sean Mileti pitched an inning of relief to earn the win and Thomas Charlwood pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.

Molloy took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. The Lions added a run in the third inning on a Sean Welsh home run to take a 3-0 lead. Molloy added two unearned runs in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 5-0.

The score remained 5-0 until the sixth inning when Mercy scored two runs to make it 5-2. Goins was by a pitch and Jemison doubled to put runners on second and third. Nisco then grounded out to second base to score Goins, making it 5-1. Bernard Jr. then singled home Jemison to make it 5-2.

The Mavericks added two runs in the seventh inning to make it 5-4. Junior Sean McAdams (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) walked to lead off the inning and Hoti and Goins later singled to load the bases. Jemison then singled to left field, scoring McAdams and Hoti to make it 5-4.

Mercy scored two runs in the eighth inning to take their first lead of the game 6-5. Ashline singled to lead off the inning and scored on a Gonzalez triple to tie the game at 5-5. McAdams then hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Gonzalez to give the Mavericks a 6-5 lead.

Molloy scored three runs in the top of the ninth to make it 8-6. Mercy was unable to score in the bottom of the ninth and the Lions earned the 8-6 win.

Mercy had 10 hits and one error and Molloy had six hits and one error.

Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks resume action tomorrow when they play at Molloy for a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
