Fox Records Team-High Two RBI as Softball Plays at D'Youville

BUFFALO, N.Y. (Mar. 29, 2025) – Despite a team-high two RBI in game one from freshman Jessica Fox (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls), the Mercy University softball team dropped 15-7 and 6-0 decisions to ECC foe D'Youville University on Saturday morning.

The Mavericks (11-11, 3-3 ECC) see their three-game winning streak come to an end and fall to the Saints (12-8, 4-4 ECC) for the first time since March 30, 2024.

Game 1: D'Youville 15, Mercy 7 (5 Innings)

The Saints scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.

D'Youville tacked on a run in the third inning to build a 3-0 lead.

Mercy exploded for five runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Graduate student Mia Harris (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) doubled and sophomore Averi Miller (Las Vegas, Nev./Arbor View) singled to lead off the inning. Senior Victoria Seppala (Abington, Mass./Abington) reached on a fielder's choice allowing Harris to score to make it 3-1. Fox then singled home Miller to make it 3-2. Freshman Talia Salanto (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) later hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Seppala to make it 3-3. Sophomore Dylan Reyer (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) then reached on an error, allowing Fox to score to give the Mavericks a 4-3 lead. Senior Madilyn Lula (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) later scored on a throwing error by the catcher to put the Mavericks up, 5-3.

Mercy scored two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-3 lead. Fox doubled home Miller to give the Mavericks a 6-3 lead and freshman Keira Jantz (Islip, N.Y./Islip) doubled home Fox to make it 7-3.

D'Youville scored 12 runs in the bottom of the fifth on nine hits to earn the 15-7 win via the run-rule.

Mercy was led by Fox who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs. Jantz went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Harris went 1-for-3 with a run. Miller went 1-for-3 with two runs and sophomore Mackayla Secoda (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) allowed five earned runs in 4.0 innings to earn a no-decision. Freshman Lauren McSweeney (Islip, N.Y./Islip) allowed eight runs in the fifth inning to take the loss.

D'Youville was led by Summer Clark who went 2-for-4 with five RBI. Clark pitched five innings with three earned runs allowed to earn the win.

Mercy had six hits and two errors and D'Youville had 13 hits and three errors.

Game 2: D'Youville 6, Mercy 0

The Saints scored a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Seppala tripled to lead off the second inning but was left stranded.

D'Youville scored two more runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead.

The Saints tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning to build a 6-0 lead.

Mercy could not score in the seventh inning, giving D'Youville the 6-0 win.

Mercy was led by Seppala who went 3-for-4 and by Fox who went 2-for-4. Salanto went 1-for-2 and senior Skylar Brandemarte (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Stonehill College) pitched a complete game with four earned runs allowed and seven strikeouts to take the loss.

D'Youville was led by Clark who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and by Sarah Parzych who tossed a complete game shutout to earn the win.

Mercy had six hits and three errors and D'Youville had 10 hits and one error.

Head Coach Jaime Lorenzo and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, April 2nd when they host Pace at 2:30 p.m.
