DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 2, 2025) – Despite a combined two earned runs allowed by junior Mackayla Secoda (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and senior Skylar Brandemarte (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Stonehill College), the Mercy University softball team dropped 2-0 and 4-0 decisions to RV Pace University on Wednesday afternoon at Smith Field.
The Mavericks (11-13) have dropped four games in a row, while the Setters (18-8) have won 12 games in a row.
Game 1: Pace 2, Mercy 0
A pitcher's duel broke out between Secoda and Pace starter Gisselle Garcia with the score remaining 0-0 until the top of the seventh.
Pace scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh on two hits and two Mercy errors to take a 2-0 lead.
Graduate student Mia Harris (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) led off the bottom of the seventh with a single, becoming Mercy's first base runner of the game. However, she was left stranded at first and Pace earned the 2-0 game one win.
Mercy was led by Harris who went 1-for-3. Secoda pitched a complete game with no earned runs allowed and five strikeouts to take the loss.
Mercy had one hit and three errors and Pace had four hits and no errors.
Game 2: Pace 4, Mercy 0
Pace took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Riley Jenkins RBI single.
The Setters scored a run in the third inning on a Brianna Shea RBI single to make it 2-0.
Pace scored an unearned run in the fifth and seventh innings to take a 4-0 lead.
Senior Kimberlee Childs (Queens, N.Y./University of Bridgeport) and freshman Alexis Lemus (Chino, Calif./South Hills) walked before Harris reached on an error to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh. However, a fielder's choice ended the game, giving Pace the 4-0 game two win and the sweep.
Mercy was led by freshman Talia Salanto (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) who went 1-for-2. Freshmen Keira Jantz (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and Mikaela Mammola (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) and sophomore Averi Miller (Las Vegas, Nev./Arbor View) went 1-for-3 and Harris went 1-for-4. Brandemarte tossed a complete game with two earned runs allowed and three strikeouts to take the loss.
Pace was led by Shea who went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Priscilla Del Toro pitched a complete game with no runs allowed and one strikeout to earn the win.
Mercy had five hits and four errors and Pace had 11 hits and one error.
Head Coach Jaime Lorenzo and the Mavericks resume action on Friday, April 4th when they play at Queens at 2 p.m.
