DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 29, 2025) – Powered by a game-high six points from senior Leah Hansen (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) and freshman Kayden Meyer (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd), the No. 23 Mercy University women's lacrosse team earned a 21-6 Senior Day win over ECC foe Daemen University on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.
In a ceremony prior to the game, Hansen, Lindsey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) and Tatiana Moran (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) were recognized for their contributions to the program.
The Mavericks (5-4, 1-0 ECC) have won two games in a row and win their ECC opener for the eighth straight season. Mercy improves to 3-0 all-time against the Wildcats (3-6, 1-1 ECC).
Mercy was led by Hansen who had a game-high six goals. Meyer had a career-high six points on four goals and two assists and freshman Marena Morales (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) and sophomore Riley Wallace (Islip, N.Y./Islip) both had three goals. Freshman Ashlinn Kelly (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) had two goals and two assists and junior Maeghan Callow (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) had a goal and an assist. Sophomore Juliana Talenti (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) had a goal and an assist and Moran scored a goal. Shimborske had an assist, eight draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Freshman Dakota Dieumegard (Islip, N.Y./Islip) had an assist and junior Rita-Marie Masi (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) had a game-high three caused turnovers with three ground balls. Junior Olivia LaMonica (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) made three saves in the first half to earn the win. Sophomore Olivia Bradley (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) made two saves in 19:06 minutes of action and freshman Liz Byrne (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) played the final 10:54 in goal.
Daemen was led by Cadence Baran who had two goals and an assist. Marianna Szamoskozi made a game-high 12 saves to take the loss.
Hansen gave Mercy a 1-0 lead at the 13:32 mark of the first quarter. Callow, Wallace and Meyer followed with three straight goals to make it 4-0 with 7:23 left in the quarter and Kelly and Hansen closed the quarter with goals to give the Mavericks a 6-0 lead after the first quarter.
Daemen scored the first goal of the second quarter to make it 6-1. Moran and Meyer scored goals less than a minute apart to make it 8-1 with 12:52 left in the half. Three straight goals from Morales gave the Mavericks an 11-1 lead at the 8:40 mark. Meyer and Hansen scored the final goals of the half to give Mercy a 13-1 lead at halftime.
Hansen scored the first goal of the third quarter to give Mercy a 14-1 lead. Shannen Calandra made it 14-2 at the 12:45 mark before consecutive goals from Meyer and Hansen made it 16-2 with 8:16 remaining in the quarter. The Wildcats scored two goals in a row to make it 16-4 before Wallace cosed the quarter with a goal to give Mercy a 17-4 lead after three quarters.
Talenti and Kelly opened the scoring in the fourth quarter to make it 19-4 with 10:15 left. A Baran goal made it 19-5 before Hansen gave the Mavericks a 20-5 lead with 6:43 remaining. Daemen scored their final goal at the 5:24 mark to make it 20-6. A Wallace goal with 1:39 left concluded the scoring for Mercy and the Mavericks cruised to the 21-6 win.
Mercy held a 36-14 edge in shots, a 28-9 edge in shots on goal, an 18-14 edge in ground balls and draw controls were tied at 14-14.
Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, April 5th when they play at Molloy at 11 a.m.
