Brandemarte Tosses Complete Game as Softball Faces Southern New Hampshire and Holy Family to Open Florida Trip

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Mar. 7, 2025) – Despite a complete game with no earned runs allowed by senior Skylar Brandemarte (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Stonehill College), the Mercy University softball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Southern New Hampshire University before falling 2-0 to Holy Family University on Friday afternoon.

The Mavericks (2-2) see their two-game winning streak come to an end, while the Penmen (6-3) have won three of their last four games and the Tigers (6-8) have won four games in a row.

Game 1: Southern New Hampshire 3, Mercy 0

The Penmen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Kaysie DeMoura RBI single.

The score remained 1-0 until the fifth inning when Grace Jenkins reached on an error by the third baseman, allowing two runs to score to make it 3-0.

Senior Madilyn Lula (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) tripled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but was left stranded and Southern New Hampshire earned the 3-0 win.

Mercy was led by Lula who went 2-for-2 and sophomore Allison Murphy (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) who went 1-for-3. Brandemarte pitched a complete game with no earned runs allowed and two strikeouts to take the loss.

Southern New Hampshire was led by DeMoura who went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Julianna Colbert pitched the first 4.0 innings with no runs allowed to earn the win and Charlotte Donovan pitched the final 3.0 innings to earn the save.

Mercy had three hits and two errors and Southern New Hampshire had seven hits and no errors.

Game 2: Holy Family 2, Mercy 0

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Rylee Hobel sacrifice fly.

Holy Family added a run in the third inning on a Kylee Jones RBI single to make it 2-0.

Freshman Keira Jantz (Islip, N.Y./Islip) singled in the seventh inning with two outs, but a groundout to third ended the game, giving the Tigers a 2-0 win.

Mercy was led by freshman Mikaela Mammola (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) and Jantz who both went 1-for-3. Freshman Carly Gaffney (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton Area) made her first collegiate start and went 2.0 innings with two runs allowed and one strikeout to take the loss. Freshman Lauren McSweeney (Islip, N.Y./Islip) pitched 4.0 shutout innings in her collegiate debut with five strikeouts.

Holy Family was led by Jones who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Paige Tidaback pitched a complete game with six strikeouts to earn the win.

Mercy had two hits and one error and Holy Family had six hits and no errors.

Head Coach Jaime Lorenzo and the Mavericks resume action tomorrow when they face Gannon at 10 a.m. and Cedarville at 12:15 p.m. in Florida.
