Osorio Records Game-High Six Points and Dorfman Makes Game-High 12 Saves as No. 17 Men's Lacrosse Earns 13-10 Win Over Florida Tech

SPARKS, Md. (Mar. 8, 2025) – Powered by a game-high six points from graduate student Jimmy Osorio (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Newberry College) and a game-high 12 saves from sophomore Cameron Dorfman (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), the No. 17 Mercy University men's lacrosse team earned a 13-10 win over Florida Tech on Saturday night at US Lacrosse Headquarters.

The Mavericks (3-2) snap a two-game losing streak and defeat the Panthers (2-4) in the schools' first all-time meeting.

Mercy was led by Osorio who had a game-high six points on a game-high-tying three goals with a game-high three assists. Junior Devon Duchnowski (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) scored a season-high three goals and graduate student Aidan Babnik (Carmel, N.Y./LIU) and sophomore Christopher Bergersen (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) both scored two goals. Freshman Cole Hunsberger (Waterloo, Ontario/Grand River Collegiate Institute) and junior AJ Barone (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) both had a goal and two assists and junior Danny Fitzgerald (Bellmore, N.Y./Mepham) had a goal and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Justin Ortiz (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) added an assist. Freshman Gavin Lamere (Plainview, N.Y./Herricks) and senior Owen Stephenson (Glen Rock, N.J./UDC) also had two caused turnovers. Dorfman made a game-high 12 saves to earn the win.

Florida Tech was led by Drew Haffner who had a game-high-tying three goals. Jax Francisco made 11 saves to take the loss.

Osorio gave Mercy a 1-0 lead at the 13:36 mark of the first quarter, off a Barone assist. The Panthers tied the score at 1-1 at the 6:43 mark of the opening quarter before Bergersen and Fitzgerald closed the quarter with goals to give Mercy a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.

A Gavin Stecher goal to begin the second quarter made it 3-2. However, Bergersen answered with a goal at the 11:55 mark to give Mercy a 4-2 lead. Haffner later made it 4-3 before goals from Duchnowski and Osorio gave the Mavericks a 6-3 lead with 3:58 left in the half. An Osorio man-up goal from Ortiz made it 7-3 before a late Florida Tech goal cut Mercy's lead to 7-4 at halftime.

The Panthers scored the first two goals of the third quarter to make it 7-6 at the 10:25 mark. Back-to-back goals from Babnik and Hunsberger gave Mercy a 9-6 lead with 7:58 left in the quarter. Florida Tech scored the final three goals of the quarter to send the teams into the fourth quarter tied at 9-9.

Florida Tech scored the first goal of the fourth quarter to take a 10-9 lead with 14:09 left. Barone evened the score at 10-10 with a goal at the 9:30 mark and Duchnowski gave Mercy an 11-10 lead with 8:43 left, following an Osorio assist. Duchnowski and Babnik added two more goals for the Mavericks to give Mercy a 13-10 lead and the Mavericks held on for the 13-10 win.

Florida Tech held a 38-37 edge in shots, a 40-21 edge in ground balls and Mercy went 13-of-27 on faceoffs.

Head Coach Ryan MacSpadyen and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, March 15th when they play at Saint Anselm at 12 p.m.
