Hansen Records Career-High-Tying Nine Points as No. 25 Women's Lacrosse Earns 21-6 Win at D'Youville

BUFFALO, N.Y. (Apr. 13, 2025) – Powered by a career-high-tying nine points from senior Leah Hansen (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields), the No. 25 Mercy University women's lacrosse team earned a 21-6 win over ECC foe D'Youville University on Sunday afternoon at Dobson Field.

The Mavericks (7-5, 3-1 ECC) have won two games in a row and improve to 8-0 all-time against the Saints (4-6, 1-2 ECC).

Mercy was led by Hansen who had a career-high-tying nine points on a game-high six goals and three assists. Freshman Ashlinn Kelly (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) had four goals, an assist, seven draw controls and a game-high three caused turnovers. Freshman Kayden Meyer (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) had four goals and an assist and sophomore Riley Wallace (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and freshman Marena Morales (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) both had three goals. Junior Maeghan Callow (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) scored a goal and had a game-high five ground balls and nine draw controls with two caused turnovers. Callow recorded her 100th career draw control, becoming the eighth Maverick in program history to reach the mark. Senior Lindsey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) had one caused turnover, tying the school record for career caused turnovers with 166. She is currently tied with Micayla Brady who set the record in 2023. Junior Olivia LaMonica (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) made four saves to earn the win. Sophomore Olivia Bradley (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) made two saves in the fourth quarter.

D'Youville was led by Sydney Gordon who scored a team-high four goals. Brinn Stworzydlak made a game-high nine saves to take the loss.

Hansen gave Mercy a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game on a woman-up goal. Morales made it 2-0 at the 13:46 mark of the opening quarter before back-to-back Saints goals made it 2-2 with 7:39 left in the first quarter. Kelly, Morales and Meyer scored three consecutive goals to give Mercy a 5-2 lead with 4:59 remaining in the quarter. A Gordon goal later made it 5-3 before Hansen and Meyer closed the quarter with goals to give Mercy a 7-3 lead after the first quarter.

Hansen scored two more goals to open the second quarter and Morales also scored to put the Mavericks up, 10-3, with 6:33 left in the half. D'Youville scored back-to-back goals to make it 10-5 before Callow, Wallace and Kelly ended the half with goals to put the Mavericks up, 13-5, at halftime.

Kelly and Meyer opened the scoring in the third quarter to give Mercy a 15-5 lead with 10:12 left in the quarter. Kelly and Wallace capped off the scoring in the quarter, giving Mercy a 17-5 lead after three quarters.

Hansen made it 18-5 at the 12:40 mark of the fourth quarter. A Madison Buck goal with 10:19 left made it 18-6 and was the only goal D'Youville scored in the second half. Hansen, Meyer and Wallace concluded the scoring for Mercy, giving the Mavericks the 21-6 road win.

Mercy held a 37-13 edge in shots, a 23-9 edge in shots on goal, a 16-11 edge in ground balls and a 21-10 edge in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday, April 16th when they play at Pace at 7 p.m.
