Eight Mavericks Record a Point as No. 25 Women's Lacrosse Earns 23-2 Win at UDC

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Apr. 19, 2025) – Powered by eight different Mavericks recording a point, the No. 25 Mercy University women's lacrosse team earned a 23-2 win at ECC foe University of the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks (8-6, 4-1 ECC) have won three of their last four games and improve to 10-0 all-time against the Firebirds (1-8, 0-4 ECC). Mercy has secured their ninth straight ECC Championship berth.

Mercy was led by senior Leah Hansen (Greenlawn, N.Y/Harborfields) who had a game-high-tying nine points on a game-high seven goals with two assists. Sophomore Juliana Talenti (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) had a career-high nine points on two goals and a career-high seven assists and freshman Ashlinn Kelly (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) had a career-high eight points on five goals and three assists. Sophomore Riley Wallace (Islip, N.Y./Islip) had three goals and two assists and freshman Kayden Meyer (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) had a career-high eight points on three goals and five assists. Freshman Dakota Dieumegard (Islip, N.Y./Islip) had a career-high four points on two goals and two assists and senior Tatiana Moran (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) had a goal and an assist. Junior Maeghan Callow (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) had an assist and a game-high-tying seven draw controls. Senior Lindsey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) had a game-high five ground balls with a game-high-tying seven draw controls. Junior Emily Marino (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) had a game-high two caused turnovers. Junior Olivia LaMonica (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) played the first 32:26 minutes in goal with no goals allowed to earn the win. Sophomore Olivia Bradley (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) played the final 27:34 minutes in goal.

UDC was led by Michelle Mitchell and Jada Williams who both scored. Natalia Perkins made five saves to take the loss.

Hansen and Kelly scored back-to-back goals in the first minute of play to give Mercy an early 2-0 lead. Hansen later made it 3-0 at the 12:52 mark before goals from Wallace, Hansen and Kelly gave Mercy a 6-0 lead with 10:35 left in the first quarter. Wallace made it 7-0 before consecutive goals from Kelly put the Mavericks up, 9-0, with 9:01 on the clock. Hansen and Meyer closed the scoring in the first quarter to give Mercy an 11-0 lead after one quarter.

Meyer and Talenti opened the scoring in the second quarter to make it 13-0 with 8:36 left in the half. Meyer scored the final goal of the quarter to give Mercy a 14-0 lead at halftime.

Mitchell gave UDC their first goal of the game with 12:31 left in the third quarter to make it 14-1. The Mavericks answered with goals from Kelly, Dieumegard and Talenti to make it 17-1 with 5:24 on the clock. Hansen scored the final goal of the quarter to give Mercy an 18-1 lead after three quarters.

Hansen and Dieumegard scored back-to-back goals to start the fourth quarter, making it 20-1. Williams scored for the Firebirds at the 9:31 mark to make it 20-2. Wallace, Moran and Hansen closed the scoring for Mercy to give the Mavericks the 23-2 win.

Mercy held a 30-2 edge in shots, a 28-2 edge in shots on goal, a 20-4 edge in ground balls and a 22-5 edge in draw controls.

Head Coach Dawn Sachs and the Mavericks resume action on Sunday, April 27th when they host Roberts Wesleyan at 11 a.m.
