Five Mavericks Record an RBI and Brandemarte and McSweeney Earn Wins as Softball Sweeps D'Youville

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 19, 2025) – Powered by five different Mavericks recording an RBI and wins from senior Skylar Brandemarte (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Stonehill College) and freshman Lauren McSweeney (Islip, N.Y./Islip), the Mercy University softball team earned 7-1 and 4-0 wins over ECC foe D'Youville University on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.

The Mavericks (16-18, 6-6 ECC) earn their first sweep of a doubleheader since March 27th and sweep the Saints (18-14, 8-10 ECC) at home for the second straight year. Mercy now has their most wins in a season since 2021.

Game 1: Mercy 7, D'Youville 1

D'Youville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Mercy tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning. Sophomore Dylan Reyer (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) led off the inning with a double and later scored on a freshman Talia Salanto (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) sacrifice fly to left field.

The Mavericks scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Freshman Jessica Fox (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) singled and sophomore Averi Miller (Las Vegas, Nev./Arbor View) doubled to put runners on second and third. Freshman Keira Jantz (Islip, N.Y./Islip) then singled to right field, scoring sophomore Onnika DeBruhl (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) and Miller.

Mercy tacked on four more runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-1 lead. Miller and Jantz led off the inning with singles and Reyer tripled to left center, scoring both to make it 5-1. Sophomore Allison Murphy (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) brought home Reyer after reaching a fielder's choice to make it 6-1 and Murphy later scored after a D'Youville error to make it 7-1.

Brandemarte pitched a scoreless seventh inning to close out the 7-1 win for Mercy.

Mercy was led by Reyer who went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs. Jantz went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Miller went 2-for-3 with two runs. Fox went 1-for-3 and graduate student Mia Harris (West Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) went 1-for-2. Senior Victoria Seppala (Abington, Mass./Abington) went 1-for-4 and Brandemarte allowed one run and struck out four to earn her ninth win of the season. Brandemarte recorded her 300th career strikeout of her career 303 for her career.

D'Youville was led by Summer Clark who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sarah Parzych allowed six earned runs in 5.1 innings to take the loss.

Mercy had 10 hits and no errors and D'Youville had eight hits and one error.

Game 2: Mercy 4, D'Youville 0

The game remained scoreless until the third inning when Mercy scored four runs to take a 4-0 lead. Jantz walked, senior Madilyn Lula (Milford, Conn./Jonathan Law) singled and Reyer singled to load the bases. Murphy then singled to center field, scoring Jantz and Lula to make it 2-0. Harris then grounded out to second, bringing home Reyer and Murphy to give Mercy a 4-0 lead.

That would be more than enough run support for McSweeney who allowed just one hit in the fourth inning to earn the win in the Mavericks' 4-0 game two win.

Mercy was led by Murphy who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and by Lula and Reyer who both went 1-for-2 with a run. McSweeney allowed just one hit and struck out three to earn her fourth win of the year.

D'Youville was led by Annie Jorgenson who went 1-for-3. Clark pitched a complete game with four runs allowed to take the loss.

Mercy had three hits and no errors and D'Youville had one hit and no errors.

Head Coach Jaime Lorenzo and the Mavericks resume action on Monday when they host Molloy at 2:30 p.m.
