COLONIA, N.J. (Apr. 30, 2025) – Mercy University men's lacrosse graduate student Jimmy Osorio (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Newberry College) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year, senior Owen Stephenson (Glen Rock, N.J./UDC) has been tabbed Defensive Player of the Year and freshman Cole Hunsberger (Waterloo, Ontario/Grand River Collegiate Institute) has been named Co-Rookie of the Year, headlining nine Mavericks named to the All-Conference Teams. Osorio, Stephenson, senior Ryan Smith (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) and sophomore Jake Norton (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) were named First Team All-ECC and graduate student Aidan Babnik (Carmel, N.Y./LIU), juniors Devon Duchnowski (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place), Michael Corbo (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) and Kenneth Summit (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Limestone University) and Hunsberger were tabbed Second Team All-ECC.
Osorio is named Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-ECC in his first year as a Maverick. Topping the conference in both goals per game (3.75, second nationally) and points per game (4.75, 14th nationally), Osorio put up 57 points on 45 goals and 12 assists this spring. In ECC play, the Mercy graduate student attackman topped the conference in total goals (25) and points (29), posting multi-goal efforts in all six games, including six against Roberts Wesleyan, five against District of Columbia and Frostburg State, four against St. Thomas Aquinas, three against Molloy, and two against D'Youville. All four of his helpers on the season also came across those six conference games.
Stephenson takes home Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-ECC honors for the first time after being named Second Team All-ECC last year. With 50 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers across 12 games, Stephenson anchored a Mercy defense that allowed just 9.25 goals per game, which ranked Top 20 nationally. The senior close defenseman averaged 2.36 caused turnovers per game, which sat second in the conference and ninth nationally, and 4.55 ground balls per game, which finished sixth overall in the ECC but first among all non-face-off specialists. 30 of his 50 ground balls and 17 of his 26 caused turnovers came against ECC competition, including 7GB, 5CT against St. Thomas Aquinas, 7GB, 4CT against District of Columbia, 6GB, 2CT (plus a goal!) vs. Roberts Wesleyan, 5GB, 3CT vs Frostburg State, and 4GB, 3CT vs. Molloy.
Hunsberger is tabbed Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-ECC after being named ECC Rookie of the Week once. Hunsberger notched 31 points in his rookie season, with 20 goals and 11 assists. The Mercy freshman attackman had 14 of those points in ECC play, with 3G, 2A against Roberts Wesleyan, 3G against D'Youville, 2G against Molloy, 1G against both Frostburg State and St. Thomas Aquinas, and 2A vs. District of Columbia.
Smith is named All-Conference for the first time in his career. The senior was named ECC Offensive Player of the Week once and is second on the team with 40 points on 19 goals and 21 assists. The midfielder leads the team in assists and is second in points. Smith is fifth in the ECC in assists and second in assists per game (1.75). The senior had a season-high nine points on six goals and three assists in the win over Georgian Court on February 18th.
Norton is named All-Conference for the first time. The sophomore has six assists, 31 ground balls and six caused turnovers in 10 games. Norton had a season-high two assists against Bentley on February 23rd and had a season-high seven ground balls and two caused turnovers in the win over Franklin Pierce on February 15th.
Babnik is tabbed All-Conference after his first season as a Maverick. The graduate student has 29 points on 21 goals and eight assists with 20 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. The attackman is second on the team in goals and fourth in points. Babnik had a season-high five points on three goals and two assists in the win at D'Youville on March 22nd.
Duchnowski is named All-Conference for the second straight year after being a First Team selection last year. The junior has 14 goals and one assist with 11 ground balls. The midfielder had a season-high three goals in wins over Florida Tech and D'Youville.
Corbo receives All-Conference recognition for the first time. The junior has 31 ground balls and two caused turnovers, starting all 12 games. The defenseman had a season-high five ground balls in wins over Roberts Wesleyan and Frostburg State and had a caused turnover against Bentley and Molloy.
Summit takes home All-Conference honors for the first time. The junior has a .603 (117-194) faceoff win percentage and has a team-high 58 ground balls with one assist. The one-time ECC Offensive Player of the Week ranks fifth in the ECC in ground balls and in faceoffs won. He went 19-of-22 on faceoffs with a career-high 15 ground balls in the win at D'Youville on March 22nd.
