DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 9, 2025) – Powered by nine different Mavericks recording a point and seven Mavericks recording a caused turnover, the No. 25 Mercy University women's lacrosse team earned a 20-2 win over ECC foe St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday afternoon in a Morgan's Message Game at Mercy Field.
The Mavericks (6-5, 2-1 ECC) have won three of their last four games and defeat the Spartans (3-9, 0-4 ECC) for the 10th straight time.
Mercy was led by senior Leah Hansen (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) who had a game-high six points on three goals and three assists with three caused turnovers. Hansen recorded her 150th career goal becoming the third Maverick in program history to reach the mark. Freshman Ashlinn Kelly (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) had four goals, an assist and one caused turnover and sophomore Riley Wallace (Islip, N.Y./Islip) had four goals and one assist. Freshman Dakota Dieumegard (Islip, N.Y./Islip) recorded her first two collegiate goals with two assists and freshman Kayden Meyer (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) had two goals and two assists. Freshman Marena Morales (Tolland, Conn./Tolland) had two goals and senior Tatiana Moran (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and junior Maeghan Callow (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) both had a goal and an assist. Sophomore Juliana Talenti (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) had a goal and a game-high five caused turnovers with four ground balls. Senior Lindsey Shimborske (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) had a game-high 10 draw controls with four ground balls and three caused turnovers and junior Olivia LaMonica (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) played the first quarter in goal to earn the win. Sophomore Olivia Bradley (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) made two saves in 23:19 minutes of action and freshman Liz Byrne (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) played the final 21:41 in goal with two saves.
STAC was led by Jada Garcia and Katelyn Cerrato who both scored. Lilah Magenheimer made four saves in the first half to take the loss.
Hansen gave Mercy a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the first quarter. Hansen netted her second goal of the day at the 13:32 mark to make it 2-0 and Moran scored, off an assist from Hansen, to put the Mavericks up, 3-0, with 12:53 left in the first quarter. A Cerrato goal made it 3-1 with 10:37 on the clock. Goals from Callow, Morales, Meyer, Hansen, Kelly, Wallace and Dieumegard made it 10-1 with 4:16 remaining in the quarter. A late Wallace goal gave Mercy an 11-1 lead after the first quarter.
Kelly and Wallace scored goals in the second quarter to give Mercy a 13-1 lead at halftime.
Back-to-back goals from Kelly to open the third quarter gave Mercy a 15-1 lead at the 9:52 mark. Dieumegard netted her second goal of the day to make it 16-1 and Wallace scored with 2:20 left in the quarter to put the Mavericks up, 17-1. Morales scored a last second goal to give Mercy an 18-1 lead after three quarters.
A Talenti goal from Meyer made it 19-1 at the 8:41 mark of the fourth quarter before Garcia scored to make it 19-2 with 7:02 left. Meyer scored the game's final goal with 4:54 left to give Mercy a 20-2 lead and the Mavericks cruised the rest of the way to the win.
Mercy held a 33-7 edge in shots, a 23-5 edge in shots on goal, a 21-9 edge in ground balls and a 17-8 edge in draw controls.
