Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is coming off a season in which they went 6-11 overall and 3-10 in NE10 play. The Mavericks look to qualify for the NE10 Championship for the second time in program history after qualifying for the first time in 2023. Head Coach Marissa Spinazzola and the Mavericks were picked 11th in the NE10 Preseason Poll. Leading the returners for the Mavericks is sophomore Charlotte Sabert who had a team-high 14 points on five goals and four assists last season. Junior Madison Preston also returns after posting four goals and four assists and senior Samantha Trickel is back after netting four goals and two assists. Graduate student Jessica Evans returns after scoring three goals last season and sophomores Madison Brefka and Jaime Stella return after combining for two goals and two assists. Senior Reagan Lane returns on defense after posting a team-high seven defensive saves last season. Sophomore Eunice Santiago is also back after recording four defensive saves. Returning in goal is senior Rebecca McClure who went 5-8 with 81 saves, a .757 save percentage and 2.22 goals-against average in 13 starts. Also returning are juniors Kate Lynne Conklin and Alyssa Benvengo and sophomores Adrianna Taynor, Camryn Shea, Lilliauna Tepper and Kaylise McClure. Joining the team as freshmen are Gianna Bevacqua, Izzy Walther, Gwendolyn Smith and Gianna Felice.
The Mavericks are coming off a 10-1 loss to #6 Bloomsburg on Sunday. Mercy was led by sophomore Charlotte Sabert who scored and by sophomore Kaylise McClure who had a game-high 15 saves. Sabert and sophomore Madison Brefka both have a team-high two goals and four points. Graduate student Jessica Evans and junior Madison Preston both have a goal and two points on the year. Senior Reagan Lane, sophomore Eunice Santiago and Brefka each have a defensive save. Senior Rebecca McClure is 1-4 in goal with 22 saves, a .667 save percentage and 3.52 goals-against average. Kaylise McClure has a team-high 27 saves with a .730 save percentage. Mercy is 2-6 all-time against Pace and the Mavericks look to win their NE10 opener for the third straight year.
Scouting the Setters
Pace is coming off a 3-1 loss to Maryville on Sunday. The Setters were picked third in the NE10 Preseason Poll after going 12-7 last season. Pace has been led by Anne Kopec who has a team-high three goals and six points. Katelyn Fairhurst and Carlotta Oschmann both have an assist and Kyleigh Kearney has a team-high two defensive saves. Morgan Strecker is 0-3 in goal with 17 saves, a .680 save percentage and 2.67 goals-against average.
