COLONIA, N.J. – Mercy University Women's Basketball sophomore Sophia Hoyt (Middle Village, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for Week Nine and junior Grace Lesko (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) has been named to the Honor Roll.
Hoyt averaged 9.0 points per game and a team-high 10.0 rebounds and 3.5- steals per game with 0.5 blocks and 1.5 assists per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week, holding opponents to 29.7 percent shooting from the floor. The sophomore opened the week with three points, seven rebounds, one block, one steal and one assist in the win at UDC on Wednesday. The forward ended the week with her first career double-double by way of a career-high 15 points and 13 rebounds to go with six steals and two assists in the win over CSI on Saturday.
Lesko averaged a team-high 16.0 points per game with 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The junior opened the week with 18 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals in the win at UDC on Wednesday. The forward ended the week with 14 points, nine rebounds, one assist and one steal in the win over CSI on Saturday.
The award is the first for Hoyt this season and the 12th for Lesko. Mercy has now earned 19 awards on the year.
Head Coach Scott Lagas and the Mavericks resume action on Wednesday when they host Queens at 5 p.m.
