Barrera Named MBWA Division II-III Player of the Week Honorable Mention

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Mercy University Women's Basketball senior Angelina Barrera (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) has been named Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Division II-III Player of the Week Honorable Mention for games played Jan. 19-25.

Barrera averaged a team-high 19.0 points per game on 51.9 percent shooting with a team-high 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week to extend their winning streak to nine games. The senior opened the week with a team-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting with six rebounds, six blocks and one steal in the win over Queens on Wednesday. The forward ended the week with a game-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds, three blocks and one steal in the win at Molloy on Saturday. Barrera recorded her 100th career block in the win over the Lions.

The award is the fourth for Barrera this season and Mercy has now earned 23 awards on the year.

Head Coach Scott Lagas and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday when they play at STAC at 1 p.m.
