Barrera Named ECC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week; Lesko Tabbed to Honor Roll

COLONIA, N.J. – Mercy University Women's Basketball senior Angelina Barrera (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and junior Grace Lesko (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) has been tabbed to the Honor Roll for Week 10.

Barrera averaged a team-high 19.0 points per game on 51.9 percent shooting with a team-high 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week to extend their winning streak to nine games. The senior opened the week with a team-high 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting with six rebounds, six blocks and one steal in the win over Queens on Wednesday. The forward ended the week with a game-high 21 points to go with seven rebounds, three blocks and one steal in the win at Molloy on Saturday. Barrera recorded her 100th career block in the win over the Lions.

Lesko averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The junior opened the week with 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in the win over Queens on Wednesday. The forward ended the week with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting with five assists, three rebounds and two steals in the win at Molloy on Saturday.

The award is the third for Barrera this season and the 14th for Lesko. Mercy has now earned 22 awards on the year.

Head Coach Scott Lagas and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday when they play at STAC at 1 p.m.
