Benvengo Scores Game-Winning Goal and McClure Sets Single-Season Record for Saves as Field Hockey Earns 1-0 Win Over Roberts Wesleyan

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Powered by the game-winning goal from senior Alyssa Benvengo (East Islip, N.Y./Molloy University), off an assist from junior Lilliauna Tepper (Sayville, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), and junior Kaylise McClure (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) setting a new single-season school record for saves, the Mercy University Field Hockey Team earned a 1-0 win over ECC foe Roberts Wesleyan University on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (6-7, 5-2 ECC) have won four games in a row for the first time since 2024 and have their most wins since 2024. Mercy splits the season series with the Redhawks (7-7, 5-2 ECC) and move into a tie for first place in the ECC standings.

Mercy wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as Tepper found Benvengo in the third minute of play, giving the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. Mercy held Roberts Wesleyan without a shot in the first quarter, heading to the second quarter with a 1-0 lead.

McClure made three saves in the second quarter, keeping the Mavericks ahead 1-0 at halftime.

Mercy recorded the lone shot in the third quarter, giving the Mavericks a 1-0 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

McClure recorded two saves in the fourth quarter to preserve the 1-0 win for Mercy.

Mercy was led by Benvengo who recorded her team-leading seventh goal of the season and third game-winning goal. Tepper dished out her second assist of the year. McClure made a game-high-tying five saves to earn her sixth win of the year. McClure now has a school-record 168 saves this season, surpassing the previous single season record of 163 set by Julia Amell in 2015.
