DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Mercy University Women's Basketball junior Amani Abuhatab (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) has been named Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Division II-III Player of the Week Honorable Mention for games played Feb. 16-22.
Abuhatab averaged a team-high 21.5 points per game on 50.0 percent shooting from the floor and 60.0 percent (9-of-15) shooting from downtown as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The junior also averaged 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 2.5 rebounds per game. The guard opened the week with a team-high 23 points to go with two steals, two rebounds, two assists and one block in the win at Queens on Wednesday. Abuhatab ended the week with a game-high 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go with three rebounds, two steals, and four assists in the win over Molloy on Sunday.
The award is the sixth for Abuhatab this season and Mercy has now earned 34 awards on the year.
Head Coach Scott Lagas and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday when they host St. Thomas Aquinas for Senior Day at 12 p.m.
