Coluccio Records Team-High Five RBI and Perrone Adds Walk-off Single in Game Two as Softball Sweeps D'Youville

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Powered by a team-high five RBI on the day from junior Julianna Coluccio (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) and a walk-off two-RBI single from freshman Madelyn Perrone (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) in game two, the Mercy University Softball Team earned 4-3 and 6-5 wins over ECC foe D'Youville University on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.

The Mavericks (5-7, 2-2 ECC) sweep the Saints (11-11, 1-3 ECC) at home for the third straight year.

Game 1: Mercy 4, D'Youville 3

Mercy took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Juniors Allison Murphy (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) and Dylan Reyer (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) singled to lead off the inning and Murphy later scored on a Coluccio bunt to make it 1-0.

The Mavericks added a run in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Junior Averi Miller (Las Vegas, Nev./Arbor View) reached on an error and scored on a Coluccio RBI single.

Murphy singled to lead off the fifth inning and scored on a Coluccio groundout to make it 3-0.

The Saints scored a run in the sixth inning on a Gabby Moreno RBI single to make it 3-1. Mercy got the run back in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-1. Perrone doubled and freshman Juliana Abbene (Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale) singled to put runners on first and third. Freshman Makayla Rady (Wharton, N.J./Morris Knolls) then reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Perrone to score.

D'Youville scored two runs in the seventh inning to make it 4-3, but senior Mackayla Secoda (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) recorded a strikeout with the tying run at second to give Mercy the 4-3 game-one win.

Mercy was led by Coluccio who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and by Murphy who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Reyer went 2-for-3 and Perrone went 1-for-3. Abbene went 1-for-2 and freshman Emma Jackson (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro) went 1-for-3. Secoda pitched a complete game with three runs allowed and five strikeouts to earn her second win of the season.

D'Youville was led by Jorja Sandilands who went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Summer Clark allowed two earned runs in a complete game to take the loss.

Mercy had eight hits and two errors and D'Youville had nine hits and one error.

Game 2: Mercy 6, D'Youville 5

Mercy took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Reyer and Miller singled to lead off the inning and Reyer later scored after sophomore Jessica Fox (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) reached on a fielder's choice.

The Saints tied the game with a run in the fifth inning to make it 1-1.

D'Youville scored three runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Mavericks got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Coluccio hit a solo home run to center field to make it 4-2.

The Saints scored a run in the top of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead. Mercy scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to earn the 6-5 walk-off win. Reyer walked and Miller reached on an error with one out in the inning. Coluccio then singled home Reyer to make it 5-4. A groundout moved the runners over to second and third with two outs. Perrone then hit a single to right center, scoring Miller and Coluccio to give Mercy the 6-5 walk-off game-two win and the sweep.

Mercy was led by Coluccio who went 2-for-3 with her second home run of the season and two RBI. Perrone went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Fox went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Alexis Lemus (Chino, Calif./South Hills) went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Reyer went 1-for-3 with two runs. Miller went 1-for-4 with a run and Jackson went 1-for-3. Sophomore Lauren McSweeney (Islip, N.Y./Islip) allowed three runs in 5.1 innings to take a no-decision. Abbene pitched the final 1.2 innings with one earned run allowed to earn her second win of the season.

D'Youville was led by Sandilands who went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Hailee Jenkins allowed one earned run in 1.1 innings to take the loss.

Mercy had nine hits and two errors and D'Youville had eight hits and one error.

Head Coach Jaime Lorenzo and the Mavericks resume action tomorrow when they host Jefferson for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
