MONTCLAIR, N.J. – Despite an interception return for a touchdown by senior Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport), the Mercy University Women's Flag Football Team dropped a 51-6 decision at Montclair State University on Monday afternoon at Sprague Field.
The Mavericks (0-4) remain winless on the year, while the Red Hawks (1-0) open their season with a win.
Dixon led Mercy with an interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter that gave the Mavericks a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Junior Kate Lynne Conklin (Greenvale, N.Y./North Shore) added 20 yards passing and sophomore Kaylise McClure (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) had one reception for 11 yards. Dixon also recorded one reception for seven yards and sophomore Madison Brefka (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse) contributed one reception for three yards. Sophomore Jaime Stella (Hawley, Pa./Wallenpaupack) produced one reception for two yards and had four tackles and one sack.
Montclair State was led by Haddiyah Bell who had a team-high 60 yards passing with two touchdowns and Nylea Underwood recorded 45 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Mercy recorded two total yards with 20 passing yards and -18 yards rushing. Montclair State had 269 total yards with 97 passing yards and 172 rushing yards.
Head Coach Mike Perrota and the Mavericks resume action on Friday, March 13th when they play at Sacred Heart at 7 p.m.
