DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Despite an interception from senior Rebecca McClure (Canastota, N.Y./Canastota), the Mercy University Women's Flag Football Team dropped a 20-0 decision to Kean University in the first-ever flag football game at Mercy Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Mavericks (0-5) remain winless in their first year, while the Cougars (3-1) defeat Mercy for the second time this year.
McClure recorded her first interception of the year with a return of 16 yards. The senior also added one catch for eight yards. Junior Kate Lynne Conklin (Greenvale, N.Y./North Shore) recorded 33 yards passing and 37 yards rushing. Senior Ancksu Dixon (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) had 19 yards rushing and one catch for seven yards. Sophomore Madison Brefka (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse) produced one catch for 12 yards and recorded five flag pulls. Freshman Anna Palmieri (Queens, N.Y.) contributed one reception for six yards and five flag pulls. Freshman Imani Fraser (Newark, N.J.) added a 17-yard punt return.
Kean was led by Jazriel Miranda who threw for 83 yards and three touchdowns. Erika Mercedes had 76 yards rushing, 20 yards receiving and one touchdown.
Mercy had 89 total yards with 33 yards passing and 56 yards rushing. Kean had 180 total yards with 83 yards passing and 97 yards rushing.
Head Coach Mike Perrota and the Mavericks resume action on Tuesday, March 17th when they play at LIU at 5 p.m.
