Nisco Records Game-High Three Hits and an RBI as Baseball Plays at RV Molloy

UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Despite a game-high three hits and an RBI from senior John Nisco (Tarrytown, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow), the Mercy University Baseball Team dropped a 4-3 decision at ECC foe RV Molloy University on Sunday afternoon at Mitchel Field.

The Mavericks (19-17, 10-8 ECC) have dropped four games in a row and drop all six meetings to the Lions (24-7, 16-2 ECC) this season.

Molloy took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an Anthony Marsillo RBI single.

The Mavericks came right back in the third inning and scored a run to tie the game at 1-1. Senior Zach Ashline (Colonie, N.Y./Colonie Central) reached on a fielder's choice before advancing to second on a groundout. Nisco then singled to right center, scoring Ashline to tie the game.

The Lions took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning on a Mike Sweeney sacrifice fly to right field.

Mercy answered again with a run in the sixth inning to tie the game again at 2-2. Senior Anthony Dolce (North Salem, N.Y./Westchester CC) walked, junior Kyle Engmann (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) singled and graduate student Alfred Hoti (New York, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) reached on an error to load the bases. Freshman Noah Dromerhauser (Hollywood, Fla./Chaminade Madonna College Prep) then grounded out to the shortstop, scoring Dolce to tie the game.

The Mavericks took a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning. Ashline walked and scored after a Molloy error by the center fielder following a junior Nevin Scaperotti (Stormville, N.Y./Carmel) single.

Molloy scored two runs in the eighth inning to take a 4-3 lead.

Scaperotti and Nisco singled with two outs in the ninth inning to put the tying run on third base. However, a strikeout ended the game, giving Molloy the 4-3 win.

Mercy was led by Nisco who went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Scaperotti went 2-for-5 and Engmann went 1-for-2. Sophomore Geneo Savoca (Albany, N.Y./University at Albany) went 1-for-3 and sophomore Gordon Votruba (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) made the start and pitched a career-high 7.0 innings with four runs allowed to take the loss.
