HOOKSETT, N.H. – Powered by a goal from freshman Astrid Borglund (Stockholm, Sweden/Hersby Gymnasium), off an assist from senior Femke Demets (Avelgem, Belgium/University of Texas Rio Grande Valley), the Mercy University Women's Soccer Team earned a 1-1 draw at Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday afternoon at Ouellette Stadium.
The Mavericks (4-2-3) earn a draw against the Penmen (3-4-1) for the first time since 2021.
Junior Heiddis Sigurdardottir (Garðabær, Iceland/University of Texas Rio Grande Valley) made a save for Mercy in the 7th minute before Emma Noheimer gave the Penmen a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. The Mavericks responded in the 32nd minute when Borglund headed in a cross from Demets, tying the score at 1-1.
The score remained 1-1 at halftime.
Sigurdardottir made two saves in the second half and a Demets shot sailed just over the crossbar in the 85th minute. Neither team was able to score in the second half, giving Mercy the 1-1 draw.
Mercy was led by Borglund who recorded her team-leading fifth goal of the season and now has a team-high 10 points. Demets dished out her first assist of the season and Sigurdardottir made a game-high three saves.
Southern N.H. was led by Noheimer who scored.
Southern N.H. held a 10-6 edge in shots, a 4-1 edge in shots on goal and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Jack Nicholson and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, September 26th when they play at Daemen at 11 a.m.
