Boots Posts Game-Winning Goal as Women's Soccer Extends Win Streak to Ten With 1-0 Victory at New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (Oct. 14, 2017) – Powered by the game-winning goal in the 30th minute of action from sophomore Ally Boots (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza), the Mercy College women's soccer team extended their win streak to ten games with a 1-0 victory at University of New Haven on Saturday night at Kayo Field.

The Mavericks (12-1) match their win total from last year, while the Chargers (5-7-2) have dropped two games in a row.

Boots scored her team-leading ninth goal of the year on two shots on goal, while sophomore Jessica Brandt (Folsom, Calif./Folsom) added an assist. Redshirt sophomore RaeAnn Ioannou (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge) recorded the Mavericks other shot on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Melissa Torres (La Mirada, Calif./La Mirada) made one save in 90 minutes of action to pick up the win.

New Haven was led by Jenna Peduzzi who had a shot on goal. Goalkeeper Kyra Wolonsavich made two saves to take the loss.

The two teams combined for few scoring chances on the night, but the Mavericks were able to make the most of their opportunity in earning another victory. After Mercy recorded three shots early on in the half, Boots gave the Mavericks the lead in the 30th minute when Brandt crossed the ball to Boots and the sophomore finished in the lower right corner to give Mercy a 1-0 lead.

Boots followed with another shot on goal in the 33rd minute looking for another goal, but it remained 1-0 with Mercy heading into halftime with the lead.

The second half saw the Chargers begin the period with a shot on goal but Torres was up to the challenge to keep it a 1-0 game. The Mercy backline was able to hold New Haven without a shot on goal for the remainder of the contest to post another shutout victory.

New Haven held a 10-9 edge in shots, while Mercy held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks look to make it 11 wins in a row when they play at No. 12 LIU Post at 3 p.m.
