Boots Scores Game-Winning Goal as Women's Soccer Earns 1-0 Victory at Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2017) – Led by the game-winning goal in the second minute of action from sophomore Ally Boots (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza), the Mercy College women's soccer team earned their third straight win with a 1-0 victory at Le Moyne College on Tuesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The Mavericks (5-1) improve to 3-1 in road games on the year, while the Dolphins (1-5) have lost four games in a row.

Boots scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year and junior Haley Noble (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) assisted on the goal. Senior Heidi Serna (West Covina, Calif./South Hills) had a team-high three shots on goal and freshman Melissa Torres (La Mirada, Calif./La Mirada) played the first half in goal and made two saves to earn the win.

Le Moyne received a shot on goal from Jada Sargeant, Kirsten Colegrove and Stephanie Liberati. Goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika made five saves to take the loss.

Mercy came out as the aggressors early on as Noble fired a shot on goal just 1:52 in the contest. Boots followed up on the rebound after the initial save by Cumika and fired a shot from six yards out to put the Mavericks ahead 1-0 early on.

Serna forced Cumika to make two more saves before the Dolphins recorded their first shot on goal in the 23rd minute. The Mavericks forced Cumika to stop four shots in the half, but could not add on to their lead as the teams headed into halftime with Mercy ahead 1-0.

The second stanza saw the Dolphins hit the post in the 57th minute and Noble had a good opportunity in the 64th minute with a shot that went high, but the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Mavericks. Le Moyne had another good chance in the 84th minute, but senior Ashley Price (Goodyear, Ariz./Millennium) made a save and a Liberati shot went wide right to keep the score at 1-0. Mercy held on for the win, posting their third shutout win of the season.

Shots were tied at 11-11 and Mercy held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jonathan Feinstein and the Mavericks will look to win their fourth straight game on Saturday, September 23rd when they play at NYIT at 12 p.m. in their ECC opener.
