Robbins Records Four Shots on Goal as Field Hockey Battles Newberry

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 12, 2018) – Despite a game-high four shots on goal from senior Angela Robbins (Margate, N.J./Mainland Regional), the Mercy College field hockey team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to Newberry College on Friday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (2-9) fail to build off their win last time out, while the Wolves (5-5) are now .500 on the year.

Mercy was also led by senior Alicia Williams (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) who had three shots on goal and sophomore Brooke Anthony (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) added a shot on goal. Senior Julia Amell (Greene, N.Y./Greene) played the first half in goal and made two saves. Senior Cheradyn Pettit (Colorado Springs, Colo./Lewis Palmer) played the second half in goal with one save to take the loss.

Newberry received a goal from Gabrielle Bazemore and an assist from Chantel Gauthier. Allison Davis made seven saves to earn the win.

The Wolves recorded the first shot on goal in the 2nd minute, which led to an Amell save to keep the game 0-0. The Mavericks responded with three straight shots on goal in the 9th minute of action, but Davis made two stops and Kessler came up with a defensive save to keep the game scoreless.

The contest remained scoreless for the remainder of the half as Amell made one more save and Davis stopped two more shots to keep the score 0-0 heading into halftime.

The second half saw Pettit make a save early on and Davis stop three more shots before Newberry got on the board in the 62nd minute when Bazemore scored off an assist from Gauthier, following a Megan Eisenhardt penalty corner, to make it 1-0. Mercy would be unable to find the equalizer as Newberry came away with the win.

Mercy held an 11-7 edge in shots and Newberry held a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Head Coach Morgan Lizotte and the Mavericks resume action on Sunday, October 14th when they host Bellarmine for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
