MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 25, 2018) – Despite a goal from junior Sabrina Anderson (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester JR/SR), the Mercy College field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 7 Millersville University on Thursday night at Biemesderfer Stadium.
The Mavericks (4-11) have dropped two games in a row, while the Marauders (8-5) have won two of their last three games.
Anderson now has three goals on the year and senior Alicia Williams (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) recorded an assist. Senior Julia Amell (Greene, N.Y./Greene) played the first half in goal and made five saves to take the loss. Senior Cheradyn Pettit (Colorado Springs, Colo./Lewis Palmer) made three saves in the second half.
Millersville was led by Erica Tarsi, Sol Ortiz-Kreiner and Brynne Ehrlacher who scored goals. Autumn Peters played the first half goal to earn the win.
Amell made three saves in the first 15 minutes of action to keep the game scoreless. Amell made her fourth stop of the half in the 18th minute of action, but Millersville would get on the board in the 23rd minute. Ortiz Kreiner shot a loose ball from the right side of the circle on the run to put the Marauders up 1-0.
The score remained 1-0 heading into halftime as Amell made five saves to keep the Mavericks in the game.
Pettit stopped a shot in the 40th minute, but less than 30 seconds later Millersville would take a 2-0 lead when Tarsi scored off an assist from Alexis Gazzio following a penalty corner.
It stayed 2-0 until the 54th minute when Ehrlacher scored following a rebound off her initial shot that was stopped by Pettit, making it 3-0.
The Mavericks continued to battle and would score in the 63rd minute when Williams fed Anderson the ball after a Kayly Bryan (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) shot was stopped and the junior shot the ball into the right side of cage to bring the score to 3-1.
Mercy would be unable to score again and Millersville came away with the 3-1 victory.
Millersville held a 26-4 edge in shots and a 15-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Head Coach Morgan Lizotte and the Mavericks resume action on Sunday, October 28th when they play at Newberry at 11 a.m.
