Noble Scores Twice to Lead No. 11 Women's Soccer to 3-1 Victory Over Daemen

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2018) – Powered by two goals in the second half from senior Haley Noble (Torrance, Calif./Torrance), the No. 11 Mercy College women's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over ECC foe Daemen College on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (8-1, 4-0 ECC) have won seven games in a row, while the Wildcats (5-5, 3-2 ECC) fall to .500 on the year.

Noble now has a team-high six goals on the year. Senior Corinna Ferrante (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) also scored and added an assist and junior Jess Brandt (Folsom, Calif./Folsom) and freshman Claudia McKail (Santa Clarita, Calif./Canyon) dished out assists. Sophomore Melissa Torres (La Mirada, Calif./La Mirada) played the full 90 minutes in goal to pick up the win.

Daemen was led by Elise Williams who scored and Maddie Flores made seven saves to take the loss.

Mercy forced Flores to make two saves early on to keep the game scoreless. Ferrante gave the Mavericks the lead in the 19th minute when she received a pass from McKail and fired a long shot into the upper right corner of the net to make it 1-0.

The Mavericks continued to apply pressure to the Daemen backline, but Flores would make four more saves in the half to keep the game at 1-0 heading into halftime.

Daemen tied the game up at 1-1 in the 49th minute when Williams headed in a cross following a corner. Mercy took the lead for good in the 67th minute when Ferrante fed Noble a thru ball and Noble fired a shot off a Wildcat defender that went in to make it 2-1 Mavericks.

The Mavericks tacked on an insurance goal in the 88th minute when Noble scored again off a Brandt corner kick to increase the Mercy lead to 3-1. The Mavericks held on the rest of the way to secure their seventh straight win.

Mercy held a 17-3 edge in shots and 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Head Coach Jim O'Brien and the Mavericks resume action on Saturday, October 6th when they play at Molloy at 3 p.m.
