MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Feb. 25, 2018) – Despite a home run and two RBI from sophomore John Mooradian (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro), the Mercy College baseball team dropped a 15-4 decision to Merrimack College on Sunday morning.

The Mavericks (3-6) have dropped five games in a row, while the Warriors (3-4) have won two straight games.

Mooradian went 1-for-2 and senior Shaine Carpenter (Florham Park, N.J./Saint Anselm College) went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Anthony Murphy (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) batted 1-for-5 with an RBI and junior Josue Perez (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College) and freshman Zak Kain (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) also recorded hits. Sophomore Andrew Hernandez (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. John's University) made the start on the mound and went the first 3 2/3 innings with five earned runs allowed to take the loss.

Merrimack was led by Mike Hoalcraft who went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI. Daniel Amidon earned the win on the mound with five innings pitched and six strikeouts.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with five runs on five hits and two Mercy errors to take a 5-0 lead. The Mavericks broke through with two runs in the top of the third on a Mooradian home run and a Carpenter RBI single to make it 5-2.

Merrimack continued to swing the bats well and exploded for five more runs in the fourth inning to make it 10-2. A three-run inning in the sixth inning increased the lead to 13-2 and the Warriors tacked on two more runs in the seventh to build a 15-2 advantage.

Mercy scored their final two runs in the top of the ninth with Mooradian hitting a sacrifice fly and Murphy recording an RBI double. However, it was not enough as Merrimack came away with the victory.

Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks resume action on Thursday, March 1st when they host Bloomfield at 3 p.m.
