Garcia Homers Twice as Baseball Earns 10-3 Victory Over Concordia

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 14, 2018) – Powered by two home runs and three RBI from junior Adonis Garcia (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College), the Mercy College baseball team earned a 10-3 victory over Concordia College on Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field.

The Mavericks (5-12) have won two games in a row, while the Clippers (4-9) have dropped four games in a row.

Garcia went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and now has four home runs on the year. Junior Miguel Ortiz Sanchez (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College) batted 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Senior John Young (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) went 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored and sophomore John Mooradian (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro) went 2-for-5 with an RBI and run scored. Freshman Zak Kain (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) batted 1-for-3 with two runs and freshman Noah Krzyzak (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) made the start on the mound and pitched three innings with no earned runs allowed to earn the no-decision. Freshman Manuel Sanchez (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) pitched a scoreless sixth inning to earn the win.

Concordia was led by Jake Partridge who batted 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Raymond Rosado made the start on the mound and pitched 5 1/3 innings with five earned runs allowed to take the loss.

The Clippers started the scoring in the top of the first with an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks answered back with a run in the bottom of the first to even the score up at 1-1. Concordia retook the lead in the top of the third with Partridge driving in a run on a single to put the visitors up 2-1.

Mercy took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the inning as Garcia hit a two-run home run to left center to give the Mavericks a 3-2 lead. The Clippers tied the game up in the top of the fourth to bring the score to 3-3.

Garcia gave Mercy the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth when he hit his second home run of the day to left center to put the Mavericks ahead 4-3. Ortiz Sanchez later hit a two-run shot to left field to increase the Mercy advantage to 6-3. Mooradian capped off the scoring in the inning with an RBI single to center field that plated Joseph Sadallah (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) to make it 7-3 after six innings.

The Mavericks tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the seventh with Young and Ortiz Sanchez recording RBI singles in the inning to put Mercy ahead 10-3. Senior Juan Perez (Bronx, N.Y./Iowa Lakes CC) and freshman Adam Jaramillo (Carrollton, Texas/Creekview) combined to toss three scoreless innings to help seal the win for the Mavericks.

Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks resume action tomorrow when they host Nyack at 3 p.m.
