Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy looks to get back in the win column after dropping a pair of games to No. 23 New Haven on Sunday. The Mavericks have been led by junior Anthony Murphy who is batting .318 in 44 at bats and has a team-high 15 RBI, four doubles and two home runs. Murphy continues to lead the ECC in RBI and is tied for second in home runs. Sophomore John Mooradian leads Mercy with a .341 batting average and has a team-high 11 runs scored with six RBI. The shortstop leads the ECC in stolen bases with ten and has two home runs on the year. The pitching staff is led by freshman Jack Kelly who has posted a 2.55 ERA in three starts, ranking third in the ECC in ERA. The freshman has tossed a team-high 17 2/3 innings with a team-best 12 strikeouts. Leading the bullpen is junior Oscar Marcial who has pitched to a 1.17 ERA in 7 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts.
Scouting the Panthers
Adelphi started the season off with a 1-1-1 record against Franklin Pierce on Saturday and Sunday. The Panthers went 24-24 a year ago and were tabbed fifth in the Northeast-10 Southwest Division Preseason Poll. Leading Adelphi at the plate is Tyler Becker who is batting .375 with three hits and one RBI in eight at bats. Junior Brandon Morse has hit .300 with an RBI and three runs scored in ten at bats. Adelphi is led on the mound by senior David Butler who earned a win relief against Franklin Pierce and has tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings in two appearances. Junior Ed Baram has made one start on the bump and went five innings with no earned runs allowed.
