Box Score ETTRICK, Va. (Mar. 9, 2018) – Despite an RBI from junior Anthony Murphy (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill), the Mercy College baseball team opened its three-game series at Virginia State University with a 12-1 loss on Friday night at Whaley Colbert Field.
The Mavericks (3-11) have dropped ten games in a row, while the Trojans (11-4-1) have won three games in a row.
Murphy went 2-for-4 with an RBI and junior Joseph Sadallah (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Sophomore John Mooradian (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro) and freshman Kuzari Jocelyn (Brooklyn, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) both recorded a hit and freshman Noah Krzyzak (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) made the start and went four innings to take the loss.
Virginia State was led by Julian White who went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Jarren Norman tossed a complete game with eight strikeouts to earn the win.
The Trojans opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks made it a 1-1 game in the top of the third as Murphy singled home Sadallah who had doubled earlier in the inning.
Virginia State went on to score a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-1 lead and tacked on four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to conclude the scoring on the day.
Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks conclude the three-game set with Virginia State tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
