Sadallah Records 100th Career Hit on Home Run as Baseball Earns 12-3 Win Over Queens

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 17, 2018) – Led by junior Joseph Sadallah (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) recording his 100th career hit on a home run, the Mercy College baseball team earned a 12-3 victory over ECC foe Queens College on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mavericks (17-19, 6-6 ECC) have won five of their last six games and win the season series against the Knights (10-21, 2-14 ECC).

Sadallah went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs and junior Miguel Ortiz Sanchez (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College) went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs. Senior Shaine Carpenter (Florham Park, N.J./Saint Anselm College) batted 3-for-4 with an RBI and sophomore John Mooradian (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro) went 2-for-5 with two RBI. Junior Adonis Garcia (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College) went 1-for-5 with two RBI and freshman Zak Kain (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Freshman Manuel Sanchez (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) pitched 5.1 innings with three earned runs allowed to pick up his second win of the season. Sophomore Andrew Hernandez (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. John's University), freshman Adam Jaramillo (Carrollton, Texas/Creekview), junior Oscar Marcial (New York, N.Y./A. Philip Randolph) and senior Juan Perez (Bronx, N.Y./Iowa Lakes CC) pitched the final 3.2 innings without allowing a run.

Queens was led by Paulino Harrington who went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Dimitri Papazoglou allowed seven runs without recording an out to take the loss.

After Sanchez worked around a double in the top of the first, the Mavericks put together seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the first to take a 7-0 lead. Ortiz Sanchez began the rally with a two-run double that scored Mooradian and Sadallah to make it 2-0. Garcia then hit a two-run single to left field that increased the Mercy lead to 4-0. Sadallah later brought in a run on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded to give the Mavericks a 5-0 lead and Mooradian capped off the scoring with a two-run single through the left side that gave Mercy a commanding 7-0 advantage after one inning.

The Mavericks would add on a run in the bottom of the second when Kain hit a single to right field that scored Carpenter, making it an 8-0 game. Sadallah made it 9-0 in the third inning when he recorded his 100th career hit on a home run to left field.

Queens inched closer with three runs in the fourth inning, but Mercy responded with two runs in the sixth inning to take an 11-3 lead. Ortiz Sanchez brought home junior Anthony Murphy (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) on a double and Carpenter singled home Ortiz Sanchez to give Mercy an eight-run lead.

The Mavericks concluded their scoring in the eighth inning when Ortiz Sanchez scored on a wild pitch to make it 12-3. Queens would not record a hit in the final three innings, giving Mercy the series win.

Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks resume action on Friday, April 20th when they host LIU Post at 12 p.m.
