Game Preview: Softball Plays NYIT, Bridgeport and Bloomfield to Conclude Regular Season

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 25, 2018) – The Mercy College softball team concludes the regular season with doubleheaders against NYIT, Bridgeport and Bloomfield.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy has won 11 of their last 12 games and currently sit in third place in the ECC standings with the top four teams making it to the ECC Tournament. The Mavericks are led by the reigning ECC Player of the Week senior Skania Lemus who is batting .408 (No. 2 in ECC) with 40 RBI (No. 2 in ECC) and nine home runs (No. 3 in ECC). Also contributing for the Mavericks is junior Mikayla Newham who is sixth in the ECC with a .385 average and is fourth in the conference with 38 runs. Freshman Hannah Mueller was named ECC Rookie of the Week this week and is batting .361 with 28 runs scored and 16 RBI. Leading the pitching staff is junior Yazzy Jameson who is 10-5 with a 3.32 ERA in 97.0 innings with 64 strikeouts. Junior Raina Gorman is 9-3 on the year with a 3.39 ERA in 82.2 innings pitched.

 

Scouting the Bears

NYIT has won two games in a row and is one game behind Bridgeport for the fourth and final ECC Tournament spot. The Bears are led by senior Jessica Daniel who is batting .358 with 24 runs, eight RBI and 28 stolen bases. Sophomore Brooke Scherer is hitting .337 with 19 RBI, two home runs and 14 runs and sophomore Samantha Melendez is hitting .299 with a team-high 20 RBI and three home runs. Senior Sofia Evangelista leads the pitching staff with a 4.30 ERA in 101.0 innings and a 7-9 record.

 

Scouting the Purple Knights

Bridgeport takes on St. Thomas Aquinas and Goldey-Beacom before facing the Mavericks. The Purple Knights currently sit in the fourth and final ECC Tournament spot and are led by freshman Kaira Ramon who is batting .421 with 21 RBI and 29 runs scored. Sophomore Allison Luzzi is hitting .406 with 36 RBI and an ECC-best 11 home runs along with 13 doubles. Sophomore Samantha Sabor is hitting .322 with 36 RBI, 18 doubles and 17 runs. The pitching staff is led by senior Amanda Staheli who has a 3.22 ERA in 130.1 innings with a 12-6 record.

 

Scouting the Bears

Bloomfield has lost two games in a row and will play at Goldey-Beacom before facing the Mavericks. The Bears are led by Mariah Wysocki who is batting .342 with 19 RBI, three home runs and 15 runs. Brianna Johnson is batting .329 with 19 RBI, three home runs and 18 runs scored and Delanie Cruz is hitting .250 with 14 RBI and 19 run scored. Kiersten Coho leads the pitching staff with a 5.91 ERA in 98.1 innings with a 4-10 record.
