Three Mavericks Record an RBI as Baseball Visits Molloy

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Apr. 7, 2018) – Despite three different Mavericks recording an RBI on the day, the Mercy College baseball team suffered 7-2 and 14-3 setbacks to ECC foe Molloy College on Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks (12-17, 3-4 ECC) have dropped three games in a row, while the Lions (17-13, 10-0 ECC) remain undefeated in ECC play.

Game 1: Molloy 7, Mercy 2

The Lions took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as David Lim recorded an RBI single to right field and Sean Hogan recorded an RBI single to the pitcher that brought home another run.

It remained 2-0 until the bottom of the third when Molloy scored two more runs on two hits and two Mercy errors to take a 4-0 lead.

The Mavericks got a run back in the top of the fifth when junior Anthony Murphy (Peekskill, N.Y./Peekskill) singled home sophomore Scott Kelnhofer (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park), who singled earlier in the inning to make it 4-1. However, the Lions answered back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to increase the lead to 6-1.

Molloy tacked on another run in the seventh inning and the Mavericks would score in the ninth when junior Joseph Sadallah (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) doubled home Kelnhofer. Mercy could only plate one in the inning and the Lions came away with the game one win.

Murphy and Sadallah both went 1-for-4 with an RBI and freshman Zak Kain (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) went 2-for-4. Kelnhofer went 1-for-2 with two runs and junior Adonis Garcia (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College) went 1-for-3. Freshman Jack Kelly (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) went the first four innings on the mound with six earned runs allowed to take the loss.

Molloy was led by Hogan who went 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Kevin Hiss pitched eight innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win.

Game 2: Molloy 14, Mercy 3

The Mavericks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when sophomore John Mooradian (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro) hit an RBI triple to right center that scored Sadallah. Mooradian later scored on a wild pitch to finish off the scoring. Mercy increased their lead to 3-0 in the top of the second when Kelnhofer advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Molloy answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-1 after two innings.

The Lions took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the third, building a 5-3 lead after three. Molloy tacked on four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth to secure the victory.

Mooradian went 1-for-3 with a run and RBI and juniors Miguel Ortiz Sanchez (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College) and Nicolas Hagerty (New York, N.Y./Westchester CC) and freshman Kuzari Jocelyn (Brooklyn, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln) also recorded a hit. Freshman Noah Krzyzak (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) pitched 2.2 innings with one earned run allowed to take the loss.
