Game Preview: Softball to Take Part in ECC Championship This Week

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (May 1, 2018) – The Mercy College softball team resumes action on Wednesday, May 2nd when they face Molloy College at 12 p.m. on Day One of the ECC Championship.

Wednesday, May 2 at highest seeds
Game One: No. 3 Molloy at. No. 2 Mercy - 12:00 p.m.
Game Two: No. 4 Bridgeport vs. No. 1 LIU Post - 3:00 p.m.

Friday, May 4 at LIU Post
Game Three: Game One winner vs. Game Two winner - 10:00 a.m.
Game Four: Game One loser vs. Game Two loser - 12:30 p.m.
Game Five: Game Three loser vs. Game Four winner - 3:00 p.m.

Saturday, May 5 at LIU Post
Game Six: Game Three winner vs. Game Five winner -12:00 p.m.
Game Seven: if necessary - 30 minutes after completion of Game Six

 

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed after going 14-10 in ECC play. The Mavericks are 16-2 in their last 18 games and are led by junior Mikayla Newham who leads the ECC in hitting with a .414 average. The junior was named Player of the Week on Monday and has 25 RBI and 46 runs scored in 152 at bats. Senior Skania Lemus is third in the ECC with a .410 average and has 47 RBI, nine home runs and 36 runs scored. Senior Allie Pellizzaro is hitting .391 on the season with 20 RBI, four home runs and 27 runs scored. The pitching staff is led by junior Raina Gorman who has a team-best 3.07 ERA with a team-high 12 wins in 98.0 innings. Junior Yazzy Jameson is 10-6 in the circle with a 3.49 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 104.1 innings.

 

Scouting the Lions

Molloy enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed after going 13-11 in ECC play. The Lions won all four meetings against the Mavericks this season and are led at the plate by junior Kaitlyn Snyder who is hitting a team-best .318 with 19 RBI, seven home runs and 38 runs. Freshman Courtney Greene has a team-high 29 RBI and has four home runs and 20 runs. The freshman has also appeared in 60.1 innings in the circle with a 3.60 ERA and 3-4 record. Senior Brianna Dalton is hitting .300 with 24 RBI and 18 runs and junior Jenna Turato leads Molloy in the circle with a 2.64 ERA and 16-11 record in 169.2 innings.

Scouting the Pioneers

LIU Post enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed after going 19-5 in ECC play. The Pioneers won three out of four meetings with the Mavericks this season and are led by sophomore Abbey Fortin who is hitting .408 on the year with an ECC-best 52 RBI along with 12 home runs and 45 runs scored. Junior Julia Seader is batting .384 with 36 RBI, six home runs, 45 runs and 13 doubles. Freshman Breanna Klaiber is hitting .401 with 34 RBI and five home runs and junior Hannah Olshevski leads the Pioneers in the circle with a 2.33 ERA and 16-8 record in 156.0 innings. Sophomore Katie Humhej is 15-8 with a 2.34 ERA in 140.2 innings pitched.

 

Scouting the Purple Knights

Bridgeport enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed after going 12-12 in ECC play. The Purple Knights dropped three out of four meetings to the Mavericks and are led by freshman Kaira Ramon who is hitting .413 with 24 RBI and 30 runs scored. Sophomore Samantha Sabor has a team-high 37 RBI and 18 doubles and is hitting .345 on the year. Sophomore Allison Luzzi is batting .390 with 36 RBI, 11 home runs and 44 runs scored. The pitching staff is led by senior Amanda Staheli who is 13-7 with a 3.27 ERA in 143.1 innings. Sophomore Ashley Eisnor is 9-14 with a 5.33 ERA in 115.2 innings.
