LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 21, 2018) – Despite three different Mavericks recording a shot on goal, the Mercy College field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to Bellarmine University on Friday night.

The Mavericks (1-5) have dropped two games in a row, while the Knights (5-1) have won four games in a row.

Senior Angela Robbins (Margate, N.J./Mainland Regional) and juniors Sabrina Anderson (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester JR/SR) and Catherine Brudi (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) recorded shots on goal. Senior Julia Amell (Greene, N.Y./Greene) played the first half in goal and made two saves. Senior Cheradyn Pettit (Colorado Springs, Colo./Lewis Palmer) played the second half in goal and made three saves to take the loss.

Bellarmine was led by Mollie Reese who scored and Heather Gregory made three saves to earn the win.

The Knights recorded the first shot on goal of the contest in the 4th minute, but Amell was up to the challenge and made the save. Amell made another stop in the 27th minute to keep the game scoreless and the teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.

Pettit started the second half with saves in the 37th and 51st minutes, but the Knights would capitalize on a rebound off the latter save to make it 1-0. Reese found the back of the cage when she fired home a rebound in front of the goal to give Bellarmine the lead.

Mercy applied pressure later in the half with Robbins, Anderson and Brudi all forcing Gregory to make stops, but the Mavericks were unable to find the equalizer giving the Knights the victory.

Bellarmine held a 10-6 edge in shots and a 7-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Head Coach Morgan Lizotte and the Mavericks resume action tomorrow when they play at No. 9 Lindenwood at 4 p.m. Eastern.
