Viscione Makes Game-High Nine Saves as Field Hockey Plays at Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. (Nov. 1, 2019) – Despite a game-high nine saves from sophomore Lauren Viscione (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg), the Mercy College field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to Northeast-10 Conference foe Stonehill College on Friday afternoon at W.B. Mason Stadium.

The Mavericks (3-12, 3-11 NE10) have dropped seven games in a row, while the Skyhawks (11-5, 11-3 NE10) have won four games in a row.

Viscione made nine saves to take the loss and senior Catherine Brudi (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), junior Nicole Cotton (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and freshman Katie Kreider (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) each had a shot on goal.

Stonehill was led by Michaela Antonellis who had a goal and an assist and Katie Lammando made three saves to earn the win.

Viscione made three saves in the first quarter to keep the game scoreless. Freshman Alyssa Sacco (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) hit the post in the 5th minute and Kreider recorded a shot on goal in the 12th minute. However, neither team would score in the opening quarter.

Viscione made another stop in the second quarter, but once again neither team could score and the teams headed into halftime tied at 0-0.

The third quarter saw Viscione make another save in the 33rd minute, but the hosts finally broke through in the 34th minute when Antonellis scored following a corner to make it 1-0. Just 20 seconds later Stonehill made it 2-0 when Grace Pickering scored after a rebound. Brudi recorded a shot on goal in the 42nd minute and Viscione made three saves in the period. The teams headed into the fourth quarter with Stonehill up, 2-0.

Stonehill increased their lead to 3-0 in the 52nd minute when Elisha Brinkman scored following a corner. Viscione made two more stops and Cotton forced Lammando to make a save, but it was not enough as the Skyhawks held on for the 3-0 win.

Stonehill held a 25-5 edge in shots and a 20-5 edge in penalty corners.

Head Coach Morgan O'Donohue and the Mavericks conclude their season on Sunday, November 3rd when they host Frostburg State for Senior Day at 12 p.m.
