Scouting the Mavericks
Mercy is making their fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and second straight appearance. The Mavericks won their second straight ECC Regular Season Championship and their first ECC Tournament Championship since 2004. Mercy has been led by senior Ignacio Mangada who has a team-high 22 points on eight goals and six assists. The senior was named Second Team All-ECC and had a team-high-tying four game-winning goals. Senior Santiago Corral is second on the team with 17 points on three goals and three assists and senior Maximiliano Rebolledo-Camus was named Third Team All-ECC after ranking third on the team with 15 points on five goals and five assists. Senior Gaston Rozenblum was named ECC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the ECC with eight assists and has ten points on the year. Junior Joel Serrano was named Second Team All-ECC and was tabbed the ECC Championship Most Outstanding Player after going 11-3-3 with 34 saves, a .773 save percentage and 0.57 goals against average.
Scouting the Golden Eagles
Charleston is making their sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Eagles won the National Championship in 2017 and were runner-ups in 2014 and 2016. Charleston enters on a seven-game winning streak and has not lost a game since September 11th against Bellarmine. The Golden Eagles are led by Gabriel Rodriguez who has a team-high-tying 23 points on ten goals and three assists. Ettore Ballestracci also has a team-high-tying 23 points on seven goals and a team-high nine assists. Jesus Cabanas and Christos Charalambous both have 20 points on the year and Ploutarchos Alonefti and Eduardo Iranzo both have 15 points on five goals and five assists. Alvaro Dean is 12-0-1 in goal with five shutouts, 14 saves and a .778 save percentage.
