Game Preview: Baseball Plays Four Games in Myrtle Beach Starting on Thursday

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Feb. 20, 2019) – The Mercy College baseball team heads down to Myrtle Beach to play four games in four days starting on Thursday.

Scouting the Mavericks

The Mavericks make their annual trip down to Myrtle Beach after going 1-3 against Barton last weekend to begin the 2019 season. Mercy batted .319 as a team with 21 runs, three home runs and 20 RBI in the four games against Barton. Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks are led by the reigning ECC Player of the Week in senior Joseph Sadallah. The third baseman batted .400 with two home runs, three RBI and six runs scored to open the season. Senior Anthony Murphy was tabbed to the ECC Honor Roll after batting .417 with a home run and five RBI and fellow senior Adonis Garcia batted a team-high .462 on the trip. Freshman Ethan McMenamy made an immediate impact as a freshman and was tabbed ECC Rookie of the Week after hitting .286 with two runs. Junior John Mooradian was named to the ECC Honor Roll after hitting .333 with five RBI and five runs scored. Junior Matteo Finocchi led the pitching staff with a 0.00 ERA in 3.2 innings pitched, earning ECC Honor Roll recognition along the way.
 

Scouting the Skyhawks

The Skyhawks begin their 2019 season against the Mavericks after going 17-21-1 a year ago. In last year's meeting between the two teams Stonehill came away with a 3-2 win. The Skyhawks were picked fifth in the NE10 Northeast Division and will be led by seniors Matthew Rocco, Harrison Sabo and William Kelleher in the field. Rocco and Sabo both earned All-Conference honors last season and Sabo led the team in seven categories last season. Kelleher posted 38 hits with 12 doubles and 20 RBI last season. Leading the pitching staff are seniors Michael Young and Justin Lynch. Young holds a career record of 10-9 with a 2.34 ERA in 146.0 innings. Lynch has appeared in 23 games in his career throwing 37.2 innings in relief.

 

Scouting the Penmen

The Penmen started their 2019 season with a 1-2 weekend at Cal State San Bernardino. Southern N.H. is currently ranked No. 9 nationally in the NCBWA Poll. Last season, the Penmen went 41-17 and made it to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship. In last season's meeting between the two teams the Penmen earned a 12-5 win over the Mavericks. To begin the season, Southern N.H. has been led by junior Dylan Faircloth who has a team-high five RBI and two home runs in 12 at bats. Sophomore Sam Henrie leads the team with a .364 average and junior Tom Blandini has a team-high five runs scored. The pitching staff is led by redshirt junior Endy Morales who has tossed a team-high 6.0 innings with a 6.00 ERA and five strikeouts.

 

Scouting the Owls

The Owls began their 2019 season with a 1-3 record against Palm Beach Atlantic and Florida National last week. Southern Connecticut is coming off a season in which they went 21-23 and beat Mercy 14-8 in Myrtle Beach. The Owls are led by this week's NCBWA East Region Hitter of the Week Nick Lamberti who hit .533 with a team-high seven RBI and six runs scored in 15 at bats. Lamberti also hit two home runs and had a team-high eight hits. Tyler Criscuolo hit a team-high .538 down in Florida with six RBI and two home runs. The pitching staff is led by Nate Carney who posted a 4.50 ERA in 6.0 innings pitched with three strikeouts. Jared Henry pitched 3.2 innings with a win and a 4.91 ERA.

 

Scouting the Ravens

Franklin Pierce is opening up their 2019 season down in Myrtle Beach on Thursday. The Ravens are coming off a 33-15-1 record in 2018 and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Franklin Pierce is led by senior Brad Roberto who batted .338 with three home runs, 33 RBI and 47 runs scored last season. Leading the returners on the mound for the Ravens is senior Zach Hart who went 8-1 with a 1.97 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 82.1 innings.
