Game Preview: Softball Plays Ten Games in Florida Starting on Sunday

CLERMONT, Fla. (Feb. 28, 2019) – The Mercy College softball team heads down to Florida where they will play ten games from March 3rd to March 9th.

Scouting the Mavericks

The Mavericks opened their 2019 season down in South Carolina two weeks against Chowan, Emmanuel and Francis Marion. Mercy went 2-2 with wins over Chowan and Emmanuel and were led by ECC Player of the Week Kaylee Stevens who batted a team-high .833 with eight RBI and two runs. The senior also went 1-1 in the circle with a 7.41 ERA and five strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Junior Erika Byrne was named to the ECC Honor Roll after hitting .625 with a team-high nine RBI, a home run and five runs scored. Senior Mikayla Newham was also named to the Honor Roll after batting .533 with a team-high nine runs scored and sophomore Hannah Mueller received Honor Roll recognition after hitting .467 with eight runs and two RBI.

 

Scouting Stonehill

Stonehill will open their 2019 season against the Mavericks after going 8-31 last season. Last season the Skyhawks were led at the plate by Michelle Theilgard who had a team-high five home runs and 25 RBI and hit .358. The pitching staff was led by Genna Hartman who had a 4.50 ERA and went 1-11 in the circle a year ago.

Scouting Seton Hill

Seton Hill started their 2019 season 2-0 with a pair of wins over Wheeling Jesuit. Leading the Griffins at the plate is Morgan Toal who is hitting a team-high .714 with four runs, a home run and an RBI. Abbie Thrower had a team-high four RBI and hit .400. The pitching staff is led by Skyla Greco who has a team-best 0.91 ERA with 13 strikeouts in 7.2 innings.

Scouting Walsh

Walsh opened their 2019 season 0-4 with losses to Maryville and Lincoln Memorial. The Cavaliers are led by Katelyn Loughman who is hitting .455 with four runs and five hits. Brooke Six has a team-high four RBI and Taylor Yoder is hitting a team-best .667. The pitching staff is led by Ellie Smith who has a 12.83 ERA in a team-high 6.0 innings.

Scouting Gannon

Gannon will open their 2019 season against Missouri-Saint Louis on March 3rd. The Golden Knights went 32-15 last season and are led by the PSAC West Pitcher of the Year Madi Beining who went 15-7 with a 2.37 ERA last season. Also, returning is the reigning PSAC West Freshman of the Year Kaity Stocker who batted .364 with a team-high 47 RBI and 12 home runs.

Scouting West Virginia Wesleyan

West Virginia Wesleyan is 0-2 as they enter Florida play after dropping games to Indiana (Pa.) and East Stroudsburg. The Bobcats have been led at the plate by Brooke Clark and Kennedy Cowart who are batting a team-high .429 and Celia Valencia who is hitting .400 with a team-high three RBI. The pitching staff is led by Hannah Hudson who has an 8.00 ERA in a team-high 7.0 innings pitched.

Scouting Wilmington

Wilmington opens up their 2019 season on March 3rd against Southern Indiana. The Wildcats went 37-17 last season and were led at the plate by Rosa'Lynn Burton who batted a team-high .470 with 27 RBI and four home runs. Makayla McCarthy hit .348 with 34 RBI and six home runs and went 18-10 in the circle with a 1.69 ERA in 194.2 innings. Caitlyn Whiteside went 18-7 last year in the circle with a 2.91 ERA in 168.2 innings.

Scouting Indiana (Pa.)

Indiana opened their season with a win over West Virginia Wesleyan and a loss to Glenville State. The Crimson Hawks are led by Kaitlyn Beers who is hitting a team-best .500 and Lauren Goetz who is batting .429 with a team-high-tying four RBI and a home run. Brooklyn Kotula leads the pitching staff with a 0.00 ERA in 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts.

Scouting Merrimack

Merrimack opened their 2019 season with a 4-1 record down in Myrtle Beach. The Warriors were led at the plate by Hannah Johnson who batted a team-best .412 with a team-high six RBI. Luciellia Colarusso hit .385 with three doubles and an RBI. Jenna Wike has a 1.47 ERA with nine strikeouts and a 3-0 record in 14.1 innings.

Scouting Saint Anselm

Saint Anselm is ranked No. 1 in the country and has started the season 5-0 with five wins in Myrtle Beach. The Hawks are led by Erin Thompson who is batting .438 with three RBI and three runs scored. Maddison Leite has a team-high three home runs and six RBI and Morgan Perry leads the pitching staff with a 2.33 ERA and 3-0 record in 21.0 innings.

Scouting Bentley

Bentley opened their season 0-3 with three losses to Rollins. The Falcons were led by Stacey Korotsky who hit .200 with two hits and a run scored. Julie Slavin hit .143 with an RBI and the pitching staff was led by Elise Pereira who has a 0.91 ERA in 7.2 innings with three strikeouts.
