Hagerty Records Two RBI as Baseball Plays at Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Mar. 26, 2019) – Despite two RBI from senior Nicolas Hagerty (New York, N.Y./Westchester CC), the Mercy College baseball team dropped a 10-3 decision to Adelphi University on Tuesday afternoon at Bonomo Field.

The Mavericks (10-13) have dropped three of their last four games, while the Panthers (12-4) have won six games in a row.

Hagerty went 1-for-2 with two RBI and senior Adonis Garcia (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College) went 2-for-4. Senior Joseph Sadallah (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) and junior John Mooradian (Marlboro, N.Y./Marlboro) both went 1-for-4 with a run scored and senior Miguel Ortiz Sanchez (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe College) went 1-for-4. Senior Fernando Figueroa (Bayamon, P.R./Monroe College) made the start on the mound and went 2.0 innings with four earned runs allowed to take the loss. Junior Matteo Finocchi (Staatsburg, N.Y./FDR) tossed 2.0 innings of scoreless relief.

Adelphi was led by Brett Malm who went 2-for-5 with three RBI. Josh Rovner went 5.1 innings with no earned runs allowed to pick up the win.

After a scoreless first inning, the Panthers took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second with five runs on three hits and a Mercy error.

Adelphi added on a run in the third and fifth innings to take a 7-0 lead after five innings of play. The Mavericks got on the board in the sixth inning when Sadallah scored after Mooradian reached on an error by the left fielder.

Mercy scored two more runs in the eighth inning to bring the score to 7-3. Freshman Ethan McMenamy (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) walked, Mooradian singled and sophomore Zak Kain (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) walked to load the bases. Hagerty then stepped up and delivered a two-run single to left field that scored Mooradian and McMenamy.

Adelphi plated three more runs in the bottom half of the eighth to make it 10-3 and they held on for the win.

Head Coach Chris Schoen and the Mavericks resume action on Friday, March 29th when they play at Bridgeport at 3 p.m.
