Game Preview: Softball Takes on Southern Connecticut, Molloy and Post to Conclude Week

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Mar. 27, 2019) – The Mercy College softball team resumes action on Thursday, March 28th when they host Southern Connecticut State. The Mavericks will then play at Molloy on Saturday, March 30th and host Post on Sunday, March 31st.

Scouting the Mavericks

Mercy is coming off being swept in their ECC opener against LIU Post on Tuesday at Smith Field. The Mavericks have been led at the plate by sophomore Hannah Mueller who is hitting an ECC-best .481 with 13 RBI and 19 runs scored. Senior Kaylee Stevens is hitting .456 with a team-high 17 RBI and recorded her 100th career hit against Felician on Monday. Junior Erica Handegard is batting .400 and has a team-high two home runs on the year. Senior Mikayla Newham has recorded a team-high 20 runs scored and has a team-high five stolen bases. Freshman Katelyn Shephard leads the Mavericks in the circle with five wins and has a 3.90 ERA in a team-high 32.1 innings. Senior Raina Gorman has a team-best 3.88 ERA and is 2-2 in 21.2 innings.

Scouting the Owls

The Owls enter Thursday's games having lost two straight to New Haven on Tuesday. Southern Connecticut is led at the plate by Liz DeRosa who is hitting a team-best .321 with nine RBI and seven runs scored. Jacqueline Dumont has a team-high 12 RBI and two home runs with a .314 average and a team-high nine runs scored. The pitching staff is led by Jazmyn Martinez who has a 6.43 ERA and 1-4 record in 35.0 innings. Kailey Westington has pitched a team-high 39.2 innings and has a 7.03 ERA.

Scouting the Lions

Molloy will host New Haven on Thursday before hosting the Mavericks on Saturday. The Lions have been led by Alex Burns who is batting a team-high .344 with eight RBI and a team-high ten runs scored. Amanda King has a team-high 10 RBI and is hitting .241, while Kaitlyn Snyder has a team-high two home runs and is hitting .246. The pitching staff is led by Tonianne Larson who has a team-best 1.89 ERA in 29.2 innings with a 0-2 record. Jenna Turato has pitched a team-high 52.0 innings with a 3.23 ERA and 5-5 record.

Scouting the Eagles

Post will play at St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday and will host Georgian Court on Saturday before playing at Mercy on Sunday. The Eagles are led at the plate by Briana Wilky who is batting a team-best .393 with five RBI and four runs scored. Demi Rivera has a team-high eight RBI and two home runs with a .279 average. Leyri Rivera has a team-high eight runs scored with two stolen bases and four RBI. The pitching rotation is led by Bridget Betley who has a 2.90 ERA and 2-2 record in 31.0 innings pitched. Leslie Denis is 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA in 16.1 innings and two starts.
